Never too early to start: 2014 class

Given we a.ssessed our 2013 recruiting with an eye on the 2014 class, we see the following areas of need:
QB
RB (2 to 3 guys)
FB/H
OL (all of them that will come, 6 guys?)
TE (2?)
WR (2 or 3)

DL (2 or 3)
DE (2)
LB (2 or 3)
Secondary (safeties and a few CBs)

So, for recruiting we see the following:
QB:
RB: Sony and Yearby
WR: JC Jackson, Jojo Robinson, and cj worton
TE:
OL: your guess is as good as mine. Corey Martinez? Mason Cole?

DE: Ware,
DT: Christmas
LB: Purifoy, Daub, tre williams (wish)
secondary: nigel patten?

Who you guys got out there? This should be a tremendous class. I am looking to VA and how we can load up there. We need this class to be #1.

================================================== ============

Just a little bit about the OL recruiting as I know everyone is very interested.

Steven Moss, Corey Martinez, Damien Prince and Garrett Brumfield are high school guys we've offered that I think we can land.

JUCOs Jermaine Eluemunor and Adam Duckett are OTs to keep an eye on

We will recruit KC McDermott, Mason Cole, Reilly Gibbons, Andy Bauer and Orlando Brown but I dont think/ know how interested they are.

================================================== ============

An OG that may be of interest:
Isaiah Wynn (lakewood hs in st pete)

OT: Reilly Gibbons (st pete catholic)
Denzel Ward
Orlando Brown is a longshot (dad played for Saban)
Caleb Samuel (Stratford Academy, Macon, Ga)
Damian Prince (bishop mcnamara, MD)

Trio of new 2014 offers to report

Florida State continues to extend offers to junior prospects from around the country. Here are three of the more recent ones:

Luke Stampini let me know that Florida State offered West Palm Beach (Fla.) Palm Beach Central four-star offensive tackle KC McDermott according to McDermott's father. McDermott is one of the nation's top offensive tackles and is considered as a top prospect in Florida for 2014.

Florida State continues to make their presence felt in the Carolinas. The most recent offer in that area went to Greenville (N.C.) J.H. Rose defensive end Kenatvius Street.

Prattville (Ala.) running back Kamryn Pettway reports that FSU offered on Monday. He is a big, powerful back at 224-pounds. Saw him against Dothan (Ala.) Northview late in the season and was very impressed. He has mentioned to me recently that he will visit Florida State at some point in February.

Report Card: FSU's offensive class

Quarterback
Grade: C
Signees: John Franklin (Plantation (Fla.) South Plantation)

John Franklin is a 6-foor-2, 175-pound three-star dual-threat quarterback from Plantation (Fla.) South Plantation. 247Sports.com considers him the No. 28 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. The big question with Franklin is whether or not he is a quarterback for Florida State. His athleticism would make the transition to a skill position on either side of the ball a possibility down the road. On Wednesday, Florida State head coach talked about Franklin’s ability be a weapon with his arm and his legs. He also spoke of him being valuable in read-option offense. With Clint Trickett, Jacob Coker, Jameis Winston, and Sean Maguire already on the roster for the Seminoles, it wasn’t essential to bring in a quarterback in this class.

Running Back
Grade: B
Signees: Ryan Green (St. Petersburg (Fla.) Catholic)

St. Petersburg (Fla.) Catholic four-star all purpose back Ryan Green is an elite running back whose speed makes him a homerun hitter every time he touches it. There is a reason 247Sports.com considers him the No. 1 all purpose back in the 2013 class. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound back has the speed to get the corner and turn any run into a huge gain. He is very quick with handling change of direction and accelerates rapidly. He is also willing to run between the tackles and make defenders look silly at the second level. He is also a decent pass catcher out of the backfield. He will play a role similar to what was asked of Chris Thompson in recent years. The reason the position doesn’t get a higher grade is that the Seminoles wanted to bring in two backs throughout the process and fell short on National Signing Day.

Wide Receiver
Grade: A-
Signees: Levonte ‘Kermit’ Whitfield (Orlando (Fla.) Jones), Isaiah Jones (Milton (Fla.)), and Jesus Wilson (Miami (Fla.) Columbus

One of the biggest blows to Florida State on National Signing Day was not acquiring the services of Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast four-star wide receiver Stacy Coley. Coley, who opted for Miami, is an elite talent, but for Florida State he would have been more a luxury in this class than a necessity. Florida State got a big outside receiver who is athletic and a very strong blocker in Milton (Fla.) four-star wide receiver Isaiah Jones. Jones is 6-foot-4, 195-pounds and likely fills out to be around 220 pounds down the road. They also added good depth at the slot position with the signings of Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star Levonte Whitfield and Miami (Fla.) Columbus three-star Jesus Wilson. Whitfield has elite speed and has improved as a wide receiver throughout his playing career. He is also an a.sset on special teams as a return man. Wilson is a big-play receiver who can be used in the slot or outside. He had a great career at Columbus, playing against top-tier teams on a nearly weekly basis.

Tight End
Grade: B-
Signees: Jeremy Kerr (St. Petersburg (Fla.)

Throughout the process, Florida State wanted to bring in two tight ends. When the ink was dry, Florida State had added just two-star tight end Jeremy Kerr from St. Petersburg (Fla.). Kerr is a 6-foot-6, 262-pound tight end who is an extremely strong blocker on the edge. He will be an a.sset as both a run blocker on the edge helping with the c-gap as well as lending an extra blocker in pass protection. The coaching staff believes he is athletic enough to provide a threat down the field in the passing game as well. The biggest question mark with Kerr is how he will fill out in a college nutrition program and strength and conditioning program. He could potentially develop into an offensive lineman down the road.

Bell will provide depth at offensive tackle.

Offensive Line
Grade: C
Signees: Wilson Bell (Eight Mile (Ala.) Blount), Ryan Hoefeld (New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin), Ira Denson (Madison (Fla.) Madison County), and Richy Klepal (Tampa (Fla.) Plant)

It was essential for Florida State to add talent at the tackle positions in this class and they simply fell short. The late flip of Prattville (Ala.) four-star offensive tackle Austin Golson to Ole Miss from his long-time commitment to Florida State was arguably the toughest development to swallow at the position. Wilson Bell, a talented three-star from Eight Mile (Ala.) Blount, was a prospect FSU pursued late in the process and successfully turned from his commitment to UCF. He has a great frame to add weight to with long limbs and big hands. He should develop nicely at tackle. Madison (Fla.) Madison County four-star offensive guard Ira Denson is considered one of the better guards in the nation, a road-grader who is very physical and has good strength. He continues Florida State’s quest to get bigger up-front. New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin three-star offensive center Ryan Hoefeld is a talented offensive lineman who played tackle at times for his high school, but will slide inside and likely handle center duties. He has drawn comparison to former Rimington Trophy winner Dan Mozes, who Rick Trickett coached at West Virginia. Tampa (Fla.) Plant three-star offensive tackle Richy Klepal cannot be counted on to be a contributor due to a medical issue that may prevent him from ever seeing the field.

And don't act like yall scrapped him n*gga he decommitted from yall, his offer was still on the table and yall got that JUCO TE after Kerr slid

Why does that matter if at the end of the day we had a better class period?

o Chris Rix went on Jay Mohr's radio show and it may not have been the best idea in the world. Rix called in -- with the quickness actually -- to specifically talk about Darnell Dockett. The resulting conversation triggered a lot of anger from Dockett, and hoooo boy Twitter is amazing right now.

The audio of the call is here. And a quick transcript:

Rix: I was surprised AJ [McCarron] would come back. He's a humble, quiet guy. He's got the girl. He's got the ring. I wouldn't think he would need to do that. But I give him a little credit for standing up for himself. But there were all these jokes about Darnell and what his preference was in college, if I might, because there was a few incidents of him hanging out with some dudes in the union and stuff...

Mohr: Did guys make fun of Darnell Dockett's s3xuality to his face?

Rix: Yes they did. He would get defensive at times as most guys would. But let's just say there were a few questions of why is Darnell hanging at this dude's house or this guy's dorm room a little bit more than you're used to hanging out at guys' door dorms.

Speaking of dorm rooms, we're hanging out at Burt Reynolds Hall, which is the dorm where underclassmen stay at Florida State. My room was right next to Greg Jones' room. They're hanging out playing video games, Madden was just getting big at this time, and we had both of our doors open.

I remember hearing Mike Boulware and Greg Jones, it was their room, and Darnell and some other guys were hanging out. Long story short, Darnell was making fun of Greg Jones, we were just freshmen, and Darnell was a year older than us. He said something that rubbed Greg Jones the wrong way -- I don't know if it was questioning his toughness, they were measuring their biceps, two big dudes. He said something that Greg didn't like. Greg picks up Darnell Dockett -- you know Greg Jones of the Jacksonville Jaguars, clearing the way for MJD for years -- he picks him up WWE-style and slams him through that coffee table that they have inside of your dorm room. Classic story. Let's just say Darnell never said anything that would offend Greg Jones from that day on.

That prompted Rix to half-assed apologize to Dockett on Twitter. Dockett, of course, was none too pleased. To the Twitters!

@coachrix fu*k you bi*ch I heard u lying on me , no one liked your sorry a.ss ever, when I see u im whooping yo a.ss on everything I love.
— DARNELL DOCKETT (@ddockett) February 7, 2013

@coachrix and fu*k yo apology pus*y! Say everything u said on radio in my face!
— DARNELL DOCKETT (@ddockett) February 7, 2013

I swear I my dead mother @coachrix when I see you that's your a.ss! Period! fu*k bi*ch lying on me bobby Bowden didn't like yo sorry a.ss!
— DARNELL DOCKETT (@ddockett) February 7, 2013

So yeah, the Chris Rix vs. Darnell Dockett battle royale is ... something. If I were Rix, I'd consider just staying away from Dockett. Hell, he might want to just stay inside and hide right now.

Update: This isn't help, Rix. Probably time to step away from Twitter for a bit.
1 thing you can control about apologizing to someone: Doing it. // 1 thing you can't control: whether they accept it.

Update 2: Travis Johnson weighs in! (ht @MatthewHLeach)
For one @coachrix that foo @ddockett used to be in my room all the time in the Bert so what the fu*k you trying to say?
