Pretty much they made him no offer. They left it up to him to return, but I think overall, Jim wanted no part of Phil again. Hence they hired Pringles with the quickness, to give Phil no chance to make an offer today. Pringles will do ok, but other than Phil, I don't see no one else that can do this job.
they said jerry buss had the say so in the decision.

how else were they supposed to handle this if they wasn't going to hire him after they interview everybody?

earned special treatment lol it's a business. Phil was certain the job was his and he wanted to take a couple days to sleep on it. so they decided to go another direction and in business, that's not uncommon. you should actually blame phil more than anything, to be honest.
what kind of spin is this? blame phil? i'm saying they shouldn't have interviewed and pursued him in the first place. they should've known what direction they wanted to go in before they fired brown. if you want to run a nash friendly offense the triangle won't provide that. phil's not going to run a different offense all of a sudden after all his years coaching. just plan better and avoid this embarassment and bad pr.

Hmmmmm, now I heard all 3 of them had a say so, and I know Jerry, Phil, and Mitch have a good relationship. Seems like Jim is starting to look like a huge cancer in this equation. I hope it works out for them in the long run. But like I been hearing people say, D'Antoni's system is ok, but he has to evolve it somehow to fit the Lakers personnel they have. He has not played with 2 7 footers this skilled, so he has to account for that in the run and gun system.

Regardless of Phil's demands, the Lakers' front office clearly know they needed him to win this year. Mitch said they want to win now, and that's one of the reasons they let Brown go. Hiring D'Antoni doesn't guarantee winning now

with all the $$ these fools have, I hope the deciding factor wasnt money. they signed Pringles to a 3 year $12 million deal but they KNEW they'd have to pay Phil at least $12mil a year to come aboard. either way, this sh*t is a bad look and the Lakers look dumb as fu*k unless they start this D'Antoni era 10-0 or some sh*t

please, this was an embarassment. phil has earned special treatment. this is not the way to treat a legend; especially one that's given so much to the organization he's being interviewed for. the brown firing was premeditated. and it became obvious that they wanted a more nash friendly offense after the failure of the princeton and the triangle wasn't going to provide that. it literally takes less than a second to know that nash would flourish more under d'antoni then he would under jackson. you didn't have to embarass phil and the organization like this. management has to be smarter about these things and plan better. this was bad pr.
Bruh, D'antoni's offensive scheme was only PART of deciding factor in his hiring. Fact of the matter is that i'm certain Jim Buss didn't in no parts want to even interview Phil for the job but was pressured into it by the media, fanbase, and the lakers management+Kobe.

However, even with Steve Nash, Buss probably would've hired Phil IF Phil were willing to table his ego/demands. Didn't happen.

So, he gave Phil a shot, heard all of his demands, said fu*k that, and went with the next best option

put him through what? how did they do him dirty? they interviewed everybody and felt someone else was better fit. it happens in every single business. I hope y'all not suggesting that phil should get special treatment. atleast they called phil and let him know personally they were going in another direction, or had gone in a another direction, rather than letting him gear up to accept just to see the lakers had hired another coach through the social media.
i think they are referring to them shaking his hand saying he could have the job and it was his decision at that point only to leave and hire someone else. That's shady and in that aspect yeah phil deserves more respect then that but i agree with everything else you said!!

They fired Mike Brown after a few games... to hire Mike "No Finals" D'Antoni.

Let's say Phil really DID want a crumb of the team. Magic gave them 5 rings and he got his piece. Phil does the same and he doesn't get anything? GTFO.

The big difference between Phil and D'Antoni with this current Laker roster is Phil doesn't need a 38 year old point guard to be healthy in order to win a title. D'Antoni does. This Laker season is now firmly dependent on Nash. Healthy Nash and they are going to the Finals...nobody in the West plays the kind of defense the Spurs did when they knocked off D'Antoni's Suns year after year.

Really tho, so many sports writers and others by default be talking about fitting nash an old nash justifying a non championship pedigree coach
Wtf????
