Fair point. Division games mean more in football though, having two teams playing on a neutral field twice a year takes away the homefield advantage. In the playoffs it would be magnified, though in basketball that would be an issue as well.

Also the Jets were an AFL team which all reside in the AFC currently, keeping the two separated by conference is part of league history.

You could actually still draw some divisions from that. But the AFC/NFC East mixups are still the best and newsworthy divisions. The NFC north one might even be decent.
