This is a horrible idea from a consumer standpoint. If this keeps happening, then the 2k series will have formed a monopoly on the NBA basketball genre. Doing so means that at some point, they could get lazy because they don't have competition. Therefore don't really need a reason to innovate and retain any of the new elements introduced year-by-year that helped set them apart from the Live series.
This is a fallacy that capitalists tell and it's just not true. Yes, competition does help sometimes, but you know what else helps? Being passionate about your work and wanting to do the best you can. Those people who work on the NBA 2k games obviously love their work and do it well, regardless of competition or not. Also, let's be real, NBA Live hasn't provided competition in like, a decade.
