This does it, really. If the nine reasons we gave you yesterday weren’t enough to dissuade you from buying the new iPhone 5 (yeah, that’s what we’re calling it for now), here are two more – and big ones too.

Despite what has been rumoured for a while now, Apple’s newest smartphone is unlikely to sport NFC, or near-field communication technology, which would have enabled a seamless tap-and-transfer of data and contactless transactions.

Yes, yes we know – previous leaks and rumours had indeed suggested that Apple would be introducing an NFC chip in its new iPhone 5, but the latest bunch of leaked images of the new iPhone 5 have paid put to those expectations.

According to Sonny d!ckson , with the introduction of Apple’s new ‘Passbook’ payment solution with iOS 6, NFC would have made perfect sense but looking at Apple and their incremental iPhone updates, it may be too big an update in too short an amount of time.

Additionally, Apple Inc. will know if its $365 million bid to acquire AuthenTec (a firm specialising in fingerprint scanning) is successful only on October 4, 2012, weeks after its new iPhone 5 is unveiled tomorrow. No way it can then have the technology already incorporated in the smartphone.

That both these technologies will feature in later iPhone (and iPad) models is almost a given – but the fact that the impending iteration of Apple’s smartphone will not have these (the NFC has been available in a number of smartphones including its arch-rival Samsung Galaxy S3 (as also the S2 and a number of other Samsung models), and many more of BlackBerry, Google, HTC, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Prada, Porsche, Panasonic, Sharp and Sony smartphone models, among others.

For Apple to not have NFC in its latest smartphone is a bit of a shame, really.

fu*k an iPhone

I had an original one off the porch, but they really haven't grown with technology like other companies, and there's no excuse for it, Apple has the most money and (supposedly) the best people working for them.

Instead they focus their time and energy suing companies that are more innovative and slowly becoming more successful than them, they need to get their sh*t together or Samsung is gonna be wiping their a.ss with them by the end of 2013

They really need to get NFC ASAP. They normally are late as fu*k, but they usually get the sh*t out fast enough to still convince people that they are 'innovating'. They cant go another year without NFC. These days I stay buying sh*t by leaning my Galaxy near the checkout terminal. And while I occassionally still get people going "Holy sh*t what was that!?" at the stores and gas stations, it doesnt happen as much as it used to anymore.

The public is becoming more and more aware of that tech by the day, and they arent as surprised by it as they used to be. If they wait another year to implement NFC, people are gonna KNOW they are late as fu*k with it.

serious question,

do u really need NFC? is NFC that much of a big deal?

i ask cause i dont hear noone talk about it or c any1 use it. only online when i look up tech stuff
more merchants need to start using it. The only places I have seen it is at McDonalds, 7/11, and some vending machines at my old college.

Also I think the carriers are making things difficult. I think Sprint is the only carrier to let you use Google Wallet on the Android phones(without hacking it).

dude Samsung is a much more powerful company than Apple, they make more than Apple and HAVE more money in general, Apple might see Samsung in a few years but even with that lawsuit they ain't sweating that $1 billion judgement, they have 400x that at their disposal

They are everywhere. You either don't use a debit/credit card or you just don't pay attention.

lol you cant tell me you know FIVE people that utilize that dumb NFC sh*t. They dont put it in their phones because nobody uses that crap. If it was wide spread enough, it would be in it.

it's all over the place. mcdonalds, CVS, Stop & Shop, most gas stations have NFC. you just dont notice it because you dont use it. It's easier and faster than using a credit card or cash.

you can see where the terminals are located , and there are apps that tell you as well
