pretty much if you can't sell your own sound then they are going to make you a carbon copy and if you don't sell as a carbon copy then you are fired.

Indie= 100% control.

Major= not

its simple.

true major or indie its a gamble either way. But the way things are today for most part rappers you have to have a some fan base before you can even think about major.

its better for artist to go indie first and if they somehow do get a major at least if they flop major they still have some fan base to fall back on.
Precisely

One of the problems is, there's no such thing as real deal A&R's in hip hop anymore.

Used to be that the A&R's at these labels would sift through boxes upon boxes of demo tapes and actually be able to judge talent.

They used to have artist showcase to gauge the marketability and talent of an artist.

Now its like anybody who can rack up 20,000 youtube views can get a deal now. Instead of sitting around and actually listening for talent, n*ggas is getting signed on youtube statistics.

Thats why labels (especially hip hop ones) have gone to sh*t.

I'm expecting Wanda Sykes to come out and yell at this muh fu*ka for dropping the "g-bomb" on some NBA PSA bullsh*t

lmao @ immature way of using the word gay.

the word gay meant happy forever....then homos3xuals transformed it into some ....gay sh*t. Imagine how the original inventor of the word felt that his word now means homos3xual.

This interview is a great insight into the degradation of the music industry.

Don't blame Boxden. The thread is being derailed by the madness of political correctness; trigger words like 'gay' take precedence ahead of entire paragraphs of valuable knowledge and information.
yeah, what he said. but this is old news; sh*ts been going on for years.

Dude is mad ignorant he should of did his research or looking into everything before he signed. You think def jam going to let you waste their money. I feel so bad for these dudes that don't take out the time to realize how this sh*t works. There is so much information on this type of sh*t its not even funny.

What?!

Have you heard the songs in this thread?

This guy is awful.

IDK, maybe he's a good freestyler, but as an artist he's a.ss cheeks. No label wants an artist who can't make hits.

not even close to awful. The problem is that Def Jam is run by idiots. Wax had a slot in the quirky but catchy rap category locked down and Def Jam probably had him making 2chainz type records.

Name some artist who are in said category and are currently making any labels bank right now (and don't say Eminem).

Go ahead. I'll wait..

IDK maybe it was the song I clicked on, but that "Rosanna" song is a sh*t sandwich. and this n*gga don't sound good on songs.

I could NEVER picture hearing this dude on mainstream radio.

The fact that you said "this video" instead of "this song" says A LOT

Yea, the bi*ch in the video bad as fu*k.

Don't mean this n*gga WAX aint a.ss. The beat is wack and he sounds wack on it..

There's no way I would go into a record store and spend $10 on this guy's album if this is the track n*ggas is tryna sell me on.

That's why he got dropped

1) He's not marketable

2) He's 42

3) He's wack

This dude on all the Wax threads hating. No one ever cared about him in life. Some dudes high up at Def Jam loved his sh*t, They're more important than you.

I dunno what Def Jam had him making but they were silly to think they could make another eminem or what ever their expectations were.

He probably would have sold more than Big KRIT did

This is simply a case of the wrong label signing the wrong artist.
