Aug 31 - World's richest woman says poor should have less fun, work harder

[pic - click to view]

Just in case you were beginning to think rich people were deeply misunderstood and that they feel the pain of those who are less fortunate, here's the world's wealthiest woman, Australian mining tycoon Gina Rinehart, with some helpful advice.

"If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain," she said in a magazine piece. "Do something to make more money yourself -- spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working."

Yeah, let them eat cake.

Rinehart made her money the old-fashioned way: She inherited it. Her family iron ore prospecting fortune of $30.1 billion makes her Australia's wealthiest person and the richest woman on the planet.

"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire," she said by way of encouragement.

"Become one of those people who work hard, invest and build, and at the same time create employment and opportunities for others."

Boom. Almost too easy.

Why are people poor? Rinehart blamed what she described as "socialist," anti-business government policies, and urged Australian officials to lower the minimum wage and cut taxes.

"The millionaires and billionaires who choose to invest in Australia are actually those who most help the poor and our young," she said. "This secret needs to be spread widely."

And now it's out there.

Thank you, rich people. We're not worthy.

Im sure she knows a lot about working...

Because social mobility is such a prevalent thing... If you cant make it from the bottom to the top ITS ALL ON YOU. I mean its not like there arnt many factors that specifically keep certain people from attaining wealth. Har har har fat biitch.

Rich people like this have absolutely no idea what the WHOLE social structure is like in America and other modern societies. Social mobility is pretty much LUCK. Not even trying to be funny, it really is. Look at most of the people from the ghetto who attained wealth. They GOT LUCKY, they either had a talent, or met the right person who put them in that position.

The black guy from the ghetto who get all A's in school, graduates with a degree in engineering, he will make what? 100k a year. Good living right. He came up. But a white dude born into a family of bankers and investors will make a million a year, this is after getting avg grades, and being shewed into top schools with money.

How can a rich person sit and talk about adversity, and hard work. The system is designed so that the poor and middle class do all the work, while the rich reap the rewards.

Looking at her attitude its pretty obvious why we see so much wealth being transferred from the poor/middle to the upper/rich... They have absolutely no compassion for anyone. Being a rich capitalist means that you shiit on people to maintain and grow your wealth.

Keep it 100, you cannot be a super rich person in America, and have compassion. If CEO's had compassion they wouldn't demand 10+ million dollar salaries, and pay their employee's 30k a year. A concerned person would be fine with distributing wealth in a way that MAKES SENSE. But nope you have azz holes like this fat biitch. Gluttony.

Nothing she said was incorrect. Who cares how she got money, fact is she got it and most people don't. If you want more, go out and get it and spend less time complaining. I can say 3 years ago, I wasn't where I wanted to be financially, socially or career wise. I was making sh*t money at a sh*t job in a sh*t situation. I got tired of it, cut out the drinking, the eating out every night and fcoused on what I was good at. 3 years later I've tripled my income, have some nice savings, a job I go to that I actually like and enough money to where if I wanted to go on a two week vacation tomorrow it wouldn't be sh*t.

Of all the quotes she dropped, this is most powerful one.

"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire."

Spoken like a true sucka, I cant emphasize enough in order for others to be rich, others have to be poor, don't think people like her dont know this, as she endorses lowering minimum wage........anyway ....a nice job is not wealth, plenty of people who have nice jobs will never be wealthy........and she is talking about real wealth not some 5 digit salary a year job..........not to knock your success at all, I'm just saying .........she was given her fortune she did not work for it......and due to that she really needs to fall back and stop trying to tell people who are breaking their backs to send their kids to school that they are in that boat because they are lazy.......

Get the fuk out of here man, i hate people like you. Who try to preach about social mobility, and down play income inequality as if it doesn't exist. Because everyone has the ability to live the American dream am i right. Which is why so many smart, educated college degree holders cant find decent paying jobs, and have to settle for working as an indentured servant for some corporation, who pays them 50% less than what they are worth.

Almost all of the young Americans who busted their azz, and will probably never earn more than their parents... They didnt focus hard enough, they didnt work hard enough, they didnt stop drinking, socializing and eating out. Because if they did, they would be a member of the 1% club, having everything in excess.

Long live the American dream.

The avg CEO, hedge funder, and bankers ARE NOT SMART, THEY DONT WORK HARD, THEY DONT DO ANYTHING BUT SHUFFLE PAPER, SOCIALIZE, DRINK, AND COMPLAIN.

YOU THINK BANKERS WHO EARN MILLIONS ARE SMARTER THAN MOST AMERICANS?

The game is rigged, there is no American dream.

you're the people that she's talking about. Yeah, not everybody can be wealthy, but it's not like there's a limit of only 200. People become wealthy every year and the overwhelming majority of the time, it's not through inheritance. It's through someone busting their a.ss and not crying about every little set back. To get to her level you have to sacrifice and if you're not willing to do that, which most people aren't, you'll be wherever you stop yourself. And she's talking about lowering minimum wage because all raising minimum wage does is increase prices which nullifies the wage increase anyway. And I'm not talking about a 5 digit salary either, just my quarterly bonus is 5 digits. I grew up with a kid in high school, American, black, grew up in the foster system until he was 12 and was homeless up until he was 18. No parents, no immediately family. Went to college (not a major either), Livingstone, worked harder and smarter than everybody else. He's 28 now in his 3rd year of having an 8 figure income. He made a decision early on that he was never going to need money again. If you want it, go get it, if you're not willing to put in the work and sacrifice, then you don't want it enough. And if you don't want it enough, don't criticize the people who are willing to do what it takes to get it.

cause this is what poor people do

Poor people are consumed with work..and do not have time to get ahead. Rich people have all had some type of support in getting where they are..if they had not inherited it.. Its dumb to agree with some one who did not work for what she has... but has an opinion on how to get it GTFOH

there is a limit..its called the buddy system...look around you. Even my business classes had taught that you need to be buddy buddy with people to get ahead. Increasing minimum wage only increases cost for small business's..and well they have the right to because generally the small business has a better product. A corporation who's CEO is bonusing millions of dollars on top of his salary can afford to not buy a couple luxury cars a year

isht I remember our president was buying a 5000 dollar bicycle ..a year. Which is why the company ultimately went bankrupt. People and their priorities. If you have not experienced being poor..you should not speak on matters you have no experience in.../thread

And again I'm not hating your success(nor can I verify the validity of your statement so I will just a.ssume that your being honest here).....but what you fail to understand is while your working hard to get where you want she did not, yet because she has something you aspire for which is money, you took what she said to be gospel. Its not. Perhaps if this had come from a Bill Gates who did work, or a Bob Johnson who also worked to get their fortune, but for someone who was simply fortunate to be born into a rich family......she has no right to judge anyone else on their misfortunes in life. And you cant preach everyone getting up and getting something while at the same time pulling the rug out from people who are trying to get a leg up.........that's retarded. And this notion again that only the hardest working people get rich is bullsh*t. Your connections and LUCK get you where you need to be in life. Your background might have gotten you an interview but it was your luck that you got the position over the 10's of other people qualified people who got the job. You probably will disagree and say it was all you..........but I know your smarter then that.........millions of people work hard in life, from the dawn to the dusk.......and many of million will retire with no more to their name then what they started with. Because as stated everyone cannot be rich, everyone is not blessed with the smarts to start a business......and for those who are businesses fail, You can climb the corporate ladder but in most cases unless your kissing a.ss your not going to get to the top,........in most cases that is........and I work in corporate America.......I know what I'm talking about...........industrial jobs you can get a nice penny to save up, but if your working 9-5 heavy lifting your body will give up on you before you eligible for a pension......and you still end up a.ssed out........see what I'm saying......all your talk about what is and what isnt your sh*tting on people who lived this life, they are older, wiser and hard workers. but they will never be rich........it just is what it is..........and because of that you are no better then they are, you just more fortunate and have luck on your side which is awesome for you dude.......real talk......but miss me with that neo conservative bullsh*t........its not reality at all.

People love to demonize the poor by characterizing them as lazy. It makes the rich feel entitled as if the position they're in is because of their actions and their actions only.

People are hating on this lady because she did nothing to become rich other than being born, but she is condemning those not fortunate enough to be in her position. To say it's hard work not to lose 30 billion is laughable. You can put in high interest accounts and watch it grow just by doing nothing. People who win the lotto is a bad example. Most of them don't know a thing about money management, that's why they're playing the lotto. If you're born into money, money management principles are usually passed down to you.
