Damm. Surprised that Apple won by this much.
Oh well. This isn't the end of Samsung. Next year they will come out strong and dominate the market
It's not about Samsung, it's about Android and Google. Samsung is the largest supplier of Android phones. So if companies want to continue selling their phones, they will have to completely redesign it, strike a licensing deal with Apple, or make their phones with a Windows OS which already have a licensing agreement with Apple.

Apple playing chess, not checkers. Samsung is the biggest Android partner. Apple about to make every Android partner pay licensing fees and make it expensive to produce Android phones or make them jump ship to another OS. Apple will be going after HTC next.

Apple has already sued other android partners including HTC.. and apple doesn't offer licensing to android competitors. Samsung was an exception .. anyways like all of these cases there will be an appeal coming. This jury was too stupid to realize apple shouldn't have been granted some of their patents

This was quite possible the smartest and most technical jury they could have had. 4 worked for tech companies, including 2 engineers. 6 out of the 9 had college degrees.

And yes, Apple already sued HTC, now they have more leverage. You're crazy if you think Apple wont offer licensing to Android competitors, especially if it means making Android phones expensive to produce.

Samsung's statement:

"Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer."

no im not crazy... the proof is in the pudding, they havent been offering licensing just injunctions , also they're just going to draw more ire and retalition with this victory.

about the jury, just because they are in a respected field doesnt mean they know about mobile patents and would decide morally. yes someone with a degree, engineering and tech should be smart enough to decide correctly but the same goes for the people in the patent office who grant these patents in the first place. you're very much mistaken if you're looking at their background to determine whether or not they would decide unbiasedly. apple's an american company and even if it were google or some other american company, they would come out on top

Read what HTC was asking for in the cross licensing agreement. It's a reason why Apple wouldn't agree to it. And they're offering injunctions because HTC is appealing the decision that they infringed on patents. Now they have the leverage to make HTC comply to it's demand or meet the same fate as Samsung. And this is America, most potential jurors are not going to know about mobile patents. And if they did, legal teams would strike them from the jury pool. The only thing you can ask for is an educated jury pool, which they got.

Nobody is saying the jury was unbiased, they could have been. But maybe, just maybe, Apple lawyers were way more effective at presenting it's case than Samsung lawyers. And judging from the reports during the trial, that was the case.

And like I said before, this isn't about Samsung, it's about Google. There's a reason why Google bought Motorola. And there's a reason why Apple isn't putting Google Maps or a YouTube app on newer iPhones.

You think Steve Jobs was lying when he said he would destroy Android?

Apple's statement:

"We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung's copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung's behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn't right."

from the start of this samsung was denied some of it's evidence (which is in the public domian) .. you could tell they were gonna lose this even before this went to trial.

anyways it's a different case when it's 2 american companies going at it. maybe I'm mistaken but didnt motorola invent the cell phone.. apple users cant use icloud in germany because apple infringes on motorola patents, and google is eventually going to have their notification patent awarded, not to mention that android is tied into a lot of googles own IP even though android is open source. I dont know who will come out on top but I dont think anything will be destroyed in the end.

also it's gonna be more of a loss for apple removing the native google apps, now google can update them for free and as soon as they feel versus apple paying licensing for updated apps.

Its not and wasnt about google all this is directed to Samsung products running android and samsung copying apple products, but there is no worries there will be more innovations to come from Samsung...but to patent square n curve shapes is insane who the hell in their right mind grants this
