Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Kid Cudi, and many of the other younger generation ALWAYS give props to Bone for being their inspiration. Even Nelly and Flo-Rida.

Drake said it in his Katie Couric interview, Wiz says it all the time. Same with Kid Cudi. They even play Bone songs during their performance.

So I have a feeling that there's a misquote or misunderstanding regarding this. Bone made artists want to rap fast, melodic, and sing. Even R&B singers tried mimicking their style.

Maybe other artists did it on a lower scale, but no one can deny the influence Bone's overall style had on the industry in the 90s. It was groundbreaking. There's a reason why Bone and Outkast are the top selling groups of all time in Hip Hop history. They introduced a new sound and style to the industry. It's the same reason why Wu Tang had such a great impact. Listeners gravitate towards something they feel is "fresh" and "new" to to them.

ja rule
he has numerous hit records where he is singing just like drake does
even if singer wasnt part of his resume

smh at the n*ggas saying tupac and 50 cent just because they have 1 or 2 tracks they singing the hook on

They harmonize? Well harmonizing is singing 3 or more different tones or chords simultaneously.

Here is a quote from Layzie being asked questions about singing/rap and Drake.

DX: I just think it’s ironic that some people online is trippin’ out about the record when you guys were the ones who invented the sing-song flow.

Layzie Bone: Right. So over time, and hopefully through this interview, they’ll get it. The harmonies in Rap music came really from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. That whole genre, that whole lane, is ours. … It’s really like, minus the Auto-Tune, we been on the singing and rappin’. So to me, everything is coming full circle now.

DX: Just out of curiosity, any of y’all ever cross paths with Drake? He ever like give it up to y’all for being the forefathers of what he’s doing?

Layzie Bone: I never crossed paths with him, but I did read somewhere in an interview where he shouted out Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Or I believe it was MTV or something like that he was on, and he was like, “Yeah, you know, thanks to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony we can get away with rappin’ and singing now.” So shout-out to him. And I love his metaphor play… But he has gave it up. Everybody pay homage to Bone, man. I was just with Treach [from Naughty By Nature] last night, and he had so many salutes for us it was like – When an O.G. like that salutes you, and borrowed from your style, our contribution to music is never going nowhere.

I understand his point.. And i agree...

Who else drew so much respect on both rap and rnb where you had a gaurenteed gold single with him/her singing or rapping?

Im sorry, its drake.

Yeah lboogie or nelly or wyclef did both but not nearly as much and they werent as succesful doing both... Drake literally guest stars as a hook/bridge singer and wont even rap sometimes, yet you're still satisfied at the end of the day

Im NOT saying that drake is the beat rapper or singer but he has the ability to write very successful songs singing or rapping

/thread
Even if they weren't as successful but they were still successful doing it. Drake isn't saying he was the most successful, he's saying he's the first which is false, in my opinion.

Nelly, Lauryn Hill, Bone Thugs were all successful in doing it.

Some people here are misinformed. Here's the definition of harmonize. It took less than a minute on Google.
