According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, there is word that Jordan Staal has turned down a 10-year deal from Pittsburgh.
McKenzie also said in his tweet that Staal has indicated that he doesn't want to sign an extension with the Penguins for the time being. If this is true then it would be fairly dramatic shift in focus for Pittsburgh and Staal. Penguins GM Ray Shero said he had no intention of trading the two-way center earlier this week and Staal had stated that he wanted to remain with the organization. Trade rumors are sure to heat up again.

You may or may not have heard...Tim Thomas plans on sitting out next season..guy is fu-king weird as sh-t, but its officially Tuukka time!

The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly filed for salary arbitration with Carey Price.
According to RDS' Renaud Lavoie, the decision is merely to protect the team from the threat of an offer sheet and it doesn't mean that negotiations between the two sides aren't going well. Price is slated to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

The Philadelphia Flyers will help the NHL open their 2012-13 season when they host the Boston Bruins on Oct. 11.
NBC Sports Network will air the contest and follow it up with the St. Louis Blues at the Colorado Avalanche. At the same time there will be another double-header north of the boarder that will feature the Montreal Canadiens playing against the visiting Ottawa Senators. After that the Vancouver Canucks will face the Flames in Calgary. Of course all of this will only happen if the CBA negotiations go well.

Scott Clemmensen might be the best goaltender available in the free agent goalie class going into this summer.
There are still some teams looking to alter their crease for next season and the Columbus Blue Jackets are one of them. GM Scott Howson said he would like to add three goaltenders to his club's roster by the start of training camp and he wants to bring some stability to his crease. Clemmensen could fit into that equation for the short term, while Jonas Gustavsson, Martin Biron and Chris Mason are options as well.

The Calgary Flames may take a stab at signing pending unrestricted free agent Jaromir Jagr, according to the rumor mill.
Jagr's theoretical signing with the Flames would help countryman Roman Cervenka transition to the North American game. Calgary inked Cervenka to a one-year, $3.75 million deal back in May. The two of them played together in the KHL with Omsk Avangard in 2010-11.

Ottawa coach Paul MacLean wants to see captain Daniel Alfredsson forgo retirement and return for another season.
"The only thing I want to say is that I want him to play, but I also want him to do what’s best for him, too," MacLean said. "If he decides he's not going to play, I will be the first guy in line to shake his hand and congratulate him on a heck of a career. He played a top six role, if not a top three role on our team (last season) and he's still a really good hockey player, but I understand that he's been doing it for a long time." The Senators bench boss said that Alfredsson adds so much to the team energy wise, but he understands that the veteran forward needs to do what's best for family and himself first.

Jamie Benn has been given a qualifying offer by the Dallas Stars.
That's just part of the process. By giving Benn a qualifying offer, the Stars have prevented him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. Benn had 26 goals and 63 points in 71 games in 2011-12.

Based on Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman recent statements, Chicago might be in line for a quiet summer.
Bowman thinks that "for the most part we know what our roster is going to be with some minor tweaks here and there." Chicago has been knocked out in the first round for two straight years, so it wouldn't have been shocking if Bowman had instead talked about the need to make some significant changes. All the same, what Bowman might simply be holding his cards close to his chest.

The Ottawa Senators are believed to be in the mix for Rick Nash.
Multiple sources have have reported that Senators GM Bryan Murray has held talks with Columbus regarding Nash and some have gone as far as to say what Ottawa appears to be willing to give up. The Senators' package is rumored to include prospect Mika Zibanejad, winger Nick Foligno and goaltender Ben Bishop. They certainly have the organizational a.ssets to go after Nash if they choose, so their inclusion into the auction for Nash's services is intriguing.

Hoping that Buffalo adds two offensive players in the first round of the draft (as we have two picks). I think the first pick HAS to be an offensive player and could grab a defender with the 2nd pick but I'd rather go offense.

We don't really have any major free agents this year. We have about 11 million in cap space so I expect us to sign a player or two.

Also wondering if Buffalo decides to move Jhonas Enroth. It never hurts to have a quality backup but he could be moved for players or picks. He played fairly well last year.

Jordan Staal's agent confirmed that his client "is not prepared to enter into a contract extension at this time."
Staal already rejected a 10-year offer from the Pittsburgh Penguins that is believed to have been worth $60 million. Staal is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2013 and it now seems likely that the Pittsburgh Penguins will shop him. The Carolina Hurricanes look like a natural fit for Staal. They're looking for a top line forward and they already employ two of Staal's brothers: Jared and, of course, Eric Staal.

The New York Islanders are believed to be open to trading down from the number four pick.
Islanders GM Garth Snow might wait to see who gets scooped up with the top-three picks before he makes his decision. If Snow decides to stick with what he has, then this will be the fourth straight season that the New York Islanders have spent a top-five pick.

Draft tonight, heres a mock from tsn.ca

2012 NHL MOCK DRAFT
TSN's resident general managers Craig Button and Pierre McGuire predicted selections for each team in the first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

1. Edmonton Oilers
Player: Nail Yakupov
Position: Right Wing
Team: Sarnia (OHL)
Craig Button's Notes: "Too dynamic, skilled and exciting to pass up. He’ll fit in with the trio of Nugent-Hopkins, Eberle and Hall."

2. Columbus Blue Jackets
Player: Ryan Murray
Position: Defence
Team: Everett (WHL)
Pierre McGuire's Notes: "Leadership and dynamic ability. He’s a proven player, and a ready player who can bring stability to the back end."

3. Montreal Canadiens
Player: Alex Galchenyuk
Position: Centre
Team: Sarnia (OHL)
Craig Button's Notes: "He can play the game any way you want. He can make plays, score and makes those around him better. "

4. New York Islanders
Player: Griffin Reinhart
Position: Defence
Team: Edmonton (WHL)
Pierre McGuire's Notes: "The 6'4" blueliner can take games over with his size. Has the NHL in his bloodlines with his father Paul and his brother Max."

5. Toronto Maple Leafs
Player: Filip Forsberg
Position: Left Wing
Team: Leksand (FIN)
Craig Button's Notes: "A big strong winger who plays with determination and can score."

6. Anaheim Ducks

Pierre McGuire's Notes: "The best pure play making defenceman in the draft this year."

7. Minnesota Wild

Craig Button's Notes: "He impacts the game offensively, defensively and physically."

8. Carolina Hurricanes
Player: Radek Faksa
Position: Centre
Team: Kitchener (OHL)
Pierre McGuire's Notes: "Three years in a row, the Hurricanes will take a Kitchener Ranger in the first round."

9. Winnipeg Jets

Team: London (OHL)
Pierre McGuire's Notes: "Probably the most NHL ready defenceman in the draft right now."

11. Washington Capitals

With the No. 2 pick in the NHL Draft, the Columbus Blue Jackets knew they would be in the spotlight Friday night.

They got a jump start on the proceedings, however, by making the first big trade on a day that may be full of them. According to Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets traded for Philadelphia backup goalie Sergei Bobrovsky in an attempt to shore up the franchise's goaltending depth. In return, Philadelphia received a package of three draft picks, including No. 45 in this year's Draft.

This past season, the Blue Jackets used four different goalies and the unheralded Curtis Sanford emerged as the unlikely No. 1. Steve Mason, who was a franchise savior during his rookie season four years ago, has continued to struggle. This season, he played in a career-low 46 games and went 16-26-3 with career worsts in save percentage (.894) and goals-against average (3.39).

Bobrovsky, 23, came to prominence in his first season with the Flyers, going 28-13-8 with a 2.59 GAA and .915 save percentage. But the Flyers landed No. 1 goalie Ilya Bryzgalov the following summer, marginalizing Bobrovsky's role.

Bryzgalov struggled in his first season in orange-and-black, however, and Bobrovsky ended up playing in 29 games, going 14-10-2 with a 3.02 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Dan Boyle has to go. I hate him. He pinches up too much and leaves a forward to take his spot on the point. Most forwards don't know how to play defense and it ends up being a 2 on 1 the other way.

As far as Tim Thomas goes, screw him for not going to see Obama.
