The 8 Biggest Reasons Why Everyone Thinks The NBA Fixed The Draft Lottery

8. ESPN didn't televise the actual ping-pong balls getting picked

[pic - click to view]

7. The NBA owns and operates the Hornets ... and the lottery

[pic - click to view]

6. The No. 1 pick seems to always magically land in the lap of a team with a good storyline

[pic - click to view]

5. The Chris Paul trade fiasco

A bunch of NBA owners and execs called foul, and it cultivated an impression that the NBA could dictate which players played for which teams.

[pic - click to view]

4. The conspiracy within a conspiracy: the NBA promised the guy who's going to buy the Hornets that he'd get the No. 1 pick

This is the problem for Stern, and will always be: Within his own league, they're dubious about him, his underlings, about the centralized power structure in New York. Stern created the mayhem of the Hornets season – the vetoed Paul trade that disrupted the operations and balance of several teams – and the fallout never relented. Here comes Tom Benson now, whose NFL organization is mired in one of the great institutional scandals in pro sports history, walking into New York for the draft lottery with a bad team, in a bad arena, and leaving with a franchise star
.

3. Anthony Davis wore a (Charlotte) Hornets hat two weeks ago

[pic - click to view]

2. The 1985 NBA Draft — the original 'rigged' draft

[pic - click to view]

1. An irrational sense of unfairness that produces crazy ideas and false correlations

Stern helping MJ? WE had the worst team of all time. We needed Davis. Not a mediocre to good player. WTF?

#8 shouldn't be a legit reason. If they did it that way the #1 pick would be revealed first and why would a station like ESPN televise that? I would tune out after the top 3 which would make the entire segment a 1 minute thing.

Why it wasn't rigged

1. You can think of a conspiracy storyline for ANY team who wins.
2. NBA League executives from each team watch the live lottery each year and sign contracts in order to do so.
3. Considering #2, if the draft was rigged, the league would get sued and potentially shut down.
4. The league doesn't own the Hornets, Tom Benson does. The deal is being finalized.
5. The live lottery isn't shown on television anymore because it's boring as sh*t and it ruins the big "unveiling" of finding out who won the draft. The NBA wants ratings for these shows now and they have to build up suspense.

i agree with you. I don't think it's rigged. but just to play devils advocate, how do we know that some balls aren't heavier than others? the people in the room would never know.

They could broadcast the balls being bounced and people will still find a way to claim there's a conspiracy
"we can't see all the balls","only one team is in there","there's a special ball...." Fact is, the lottery is done for this year, on to the next.....
But seriously, which one would be worse? The team with the storyline winning the lottery or the same team winning the title?

I'm like this....maybe it was rigged, maybe it wasn't. It's a LOTTERY, meaning you take a gamble; you win some, you lose some. So what if your team didn't win it, take your fu*kin pick and make the best choice for your team......
