Derrick Rose Has Surgery

In the first stage of what is sure to be a long road back to the basketball court, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose had surgery on his torn ACL on Saturday.

The surgery was conducted at Rush University Medical Center by team physician Dr. Brian Cole. The surgery was a success, according to Rose's brother, Reggie Rose.

"The surgery went fine," Reggie Rose told Chicago's ABC 7. "He came out, I feel, 100 percent. I talked to Dr. Cole. Dr. Cole said the surgery 'went great.' So right now, everything is on the up-and-up.

"He's in a little bit of pain, but the surgery went great. My mom, my other brothers, the whole family's over there at Rush supporting him."

Rose suffered the injury in Chicago's first playoff game against the Philadelphia 76ers on April 28.

The ACL tear was the capstone on a season rife with injuries for the one-time MVP. The 23-year-old Rose played in just 39 of the Bulls' 66 regular-season games because of turf toe, back spasms, a pulled groin and foot injuries.

Reggie Rose believes that the hectic pace of the NBA's lockout-shortened season, which consisted of 66 games in 120 days, put extra stress on Derrick's body.

"I worried about (the schedule) a lot, cause they were going back-to-back-to-back games," Reggie Rose told ABC 7. "Even though everybody said he's young. It's still a human body. There's so much a human body can take. He was getting little nicks and knacks and all that, so I was just wondering when something was going to really happen. I didn't think something of this magnitude was gonna happen, but it did. As the Rose family, we just gotta push on."

Playing without Rose, the Bulls' season came to an early end as Chicago lost to Philadelphia in six games. In addition to Rose, center Joakim Noah missed the series' final three games with an ankle injury.

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the news.

Bulls fans should've heed my warning.

I told you that him going 110% on every play 1 on 5 would tear his body up.

All you Bulls fans ignored my statements with "point god" "youngest mvp" "only his 3rd season"

I said yall witnessed rose in his prime last season.

Now yall about to WITNESS the basketball god take over the NBA for the next 7 seasons.

Come on bro laughing at a players injury is as foul as it gets...

He'll still be athletic but not the same explosiveness and a few inches off vertical.

*raises hand* lol

it takes a few hours from what i recall (hard to tell because you're unconscious lol) and they usually keep you overnight. he had a patellar tendon graft to replace it which is what i did for both of mine. other options are a hamstring graft or an ACL from a dead donor. there are pros and cons. i think it's easier to rehab with a patellar tendon graft vs. a hamstring, but if you don't strengthen it, you can get patellar tendinitis, which happened to me. he also received PRP to help heal.

From my doctors notes mine was bout an hour...recovery was about half a year, didn't trust pushing off it until a year, still don't trust it's ability to take a knee tackle though haven't played football the same since

no sh*t. you dont have came the same from an ACL injury especially in a sport like basketball
Baron Davis didn't get that memo coming out of college. Neither did Jamal Crawford after 2001, who said he felt better after his injury than before it.

I think a RB puts more pressure on his ACL than any position in basketball.. Watching Peterson and the cuts he has to make, while people will be all over him trying to tackle him, will be telling..

If Peterson can make a full recovery, I don't think we have to worry about Rose too much. Not to mention RGIII speed and athletic ability did not go away in the slightest.

RG3 has olympic like speed STILL. And Andrian Peterson is every bit as explosive as Rose in his cuts, as I said, I can't look at these two RECENT glaring examples and think doom and gloom.

If there are others who have recovered and didn't lose anything(RG3,Young Baron,Peterson), why can't a 23 year old physical specimen do the same? I expect for him to be alright, just getting over the mental hurdle will be his greatest challenge.
