The OKC Thunder put an end to the Dallas Mavericks’ season in emphatic fashion on Saturday night, sweeping the defending NBA champions in emphatic fashion. And despite the inevitable sadness, there was a sense around the Mavs that this season was always about the future for them.

No matter what team owner Mark Cuban may claim, the Mavericks never really put their best foot forward — on the court, or in the front office — and the sense was that they were setting themselves up for a roster upgrade, beginning next season.

Dirk Nowitzki realizes that he needs other top-notch talent alongside him going forward. Per the Dallas Morning News:

It is believed that Mavericks owner Mark Cuban didn’t re-sign Tyson Chandler , J.J. Barea and DeShawn Stevenson because he wanted the salary cap space to make a run at a couple of stars to pair with Dirk Nowitzki. However, Cuban has said he isn’t necessarily trying to acquire both Williams and Howard, claiming he could spread the cap room around among several star players instead of two superstars.

But listening to Nowitzki’s comments following Saturday’s season-ending loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the franchise’s greatest player is hoping for superstars. “We need some guys that can make plays for themselves,” Nowitzki said. “That’s pretty obvious. If you look at all the top teams now, they have at least two-three guys they can throw the ball to and they do their thing.” Nowitzki then specifically mentioned how Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden each carried a Thunder team on different nights in the four-game sweep of the Mavericks. “If you want to be an elite team in the league right now, you have to have 2-3 guys that can go off at any time,” Nowitzki added.

Mark Cuban has been pretty consistent with his claims that he’s not obsessed with the idea of signing a superstar (or two) this summer, preaching smart use of the new CBA rules instead. It remains to be seen if Dirk Nowitzki will buy into this philosophy.
Can you imagine if he would of went to chicago with lebron he settled for vince and odom but they key parts like jj and caron

Mavs championships since that trade -1
Nets PLAYOFF births since that trade.... Nets lawse n*gga gtfo

Harris was a rookie
J.Howard was hurt more than 3/4ths of his career.

other than that he didn't have "superstar" talent around him... I mean look at those two players now.

Dirk has always had players who were good in their prime, and on their last leg with the Mavs.

Stackhouse
Terry
Peja
Carter
Kid
West
Devin George

That only attributes to Cuban always being over the luxury tax, Mavs teams have always been patch work teams, this year was no different, next year won't be different either.
Devin Harris almost played four years with the Mavs, Josh Howard was a good scorer, Steve Nash...nuff said, Michael Finley, Antawn Jamison, Antoine Walker, Peja, Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Caron Butler, Vince is ehhh right now but still can score the ball, Jerry Stackhouse, Erick Dampier was a decent big man, Tyson Chandler, hell if you wanna go back Cedrick Ceballos, Nick Van Exel. Not to mention the good coaches hes had; Don Nelson, Avery Johnson, Rick Carlisle.

Anyone that says this dude hasn't always had a squad around him is delusional. Dirk is overrated as a motherfu*ka by the people here and this is coming from someone who likes Dirk. Even when this dude won the MVP he LOST. There are no pictures of him accepting the MVP on his home court because his a.ss had been bounced by an 8th seed Warriors team.

Even after all that he FINALLY gets a ring and all of a sudden he is the God of the NBA according to BX. He didn't change a damn thing about his game, didn't put up career numbers in ANYTHING, didn't become a beast defensively, didn't become a monster on the boards but that didn't matter. He had a ring therefore he was the best, then when this season started these idiots made a million excuses for his play then how does he reward them.....another first round exit.

Yall are funny boy....

Dirk's one of three players to average 20\10 in the playoffs and always increases his production in the playoffs in comparison with the regular season. he doesn't play defense but what do you guys want him to do he's slow and he's white.

Stars may not have been the best word to use but Dirk has ALWAYS been surrounded by talent.

Which is something even YOU can't deny.

BTW if you don't recognize how nasty Antoine Walker was at one time YOU need to get all the way the fu*k up outta here.

at the entire first paragraph.
You are a very stupid individual.

1. Steve Nash was a player when he was with the Mavs, superstar in the making if you will (he never avg. a double double with the mavs.) his first season with the Suns he avg. 15 ppg and 12 apg.

reason for not winning in the playoffs?
Sacramento Kings... Nuff said. 00-02 they smashed us in the first round
02-03 we went 6 games against the spurs in the WCF
03-04...KIngs.

Nash leaves.

2. Finley was never a superstar player.. Jason Terry = Michael Finley.
3. Jamison..? n*gga please
4. Walker? got fat and slow and became a role player who threw up threes
5. we got Peja coming OFF an injury halfway through the year.. had one good game against the lakers in the playoffs and was never heard from again..
6. Butler played half a year after the all star break, then got hurt in the next season.
7. Kidd and Terry AREN'T superstars.
8. Stackhouse? cmon

and finally you said Erik Dampier is a decent center
I should've stopped reading then.

2nd paragraph tell me how many times the player who won the MVP won a title the same year.. there was a thread about this a few weeks ago, where the last time someone won both it was Tim Duncan back in 01'?

3rd paragraph

Dirk WAS god like in the entire playoffs. He avg. the most points in the playoffs dumbass; he didn't need Defense.. that's what TyChan was there for, to clog up the paint. Why you think STAT looks so lost in NYC right now?

Dirk in the OKC series last year >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everyone else in the entire playoffs last year
You lost for reading 1 letter after Eric Dampier. When I read that I got up and left the room.

Here let me help you out

As far as the Erick Dampier thing that you and the other child can't seem to grasp. Dampier averaged over 7 boards and damn near a block and a half for 6 years with Dallas. I said DECENT, apparently along with multiple other thing, you guys can't figure out what that means so I'll help you out.

de·cent/ˈdēsənt/

Adjective:

Conforming with generally accepted standards of respectable or moral behavior.
Appropriate; fitting: "they would meet again after a decent interval".

Got it now, GOOD JOB!!!!

Now run along, get ready for bed, have someone read you a story (because if you read it yourself you won't see half the fu*kin story), and leave the NBA talk for someone not born in the 90's kid.

PS: I'm not going to do this back n forth sh*t all night, especially with someone that is BLATANTLY wrong and will never own up to it. I know you'll right another half page comment that says nothing but don't expect me to reply. You aren't going to use me as a reason for you to stay up after your bedtime.
