It's gonna be either this next presidential term or the one after that, that will determine whether the economy picks back up...we came out this recession but it's looking like the peak of this upturn is gonna stay about as high as our last recession...we're gonna dip LOW for our next recession and I'm not convinced we won't hit Europe crisis status when it's time for our economical upturn
I'm personally extremely concerned about the student loan debt bubble that is about to burst any second now. It's already made millions of graduates indentured servants. Imagine what it'll do when they can't pay those loans back. sh*t's gonna be worse than the housing crisis unless the government does something serious about it (Obama's new initiatives have been helping out, but if Romney wins, I'm afraid that he'll overturn those, given republican stances on student loans and what not). sh*t the student loan interest rates are about to double. I'm scared for America

Much more versatile. You can write prescriptions, you'll get more business because you'll presumably charge less than a MD, etc.

EDIT: And there's this:

Yeah, this decade is gonna determine ALOT for America...sh*t I know a person who pays $200 a semester for classes to continuously postpone paying off their debt.

Besides all the money making stuff with university, the means to an end part, university is also an end in itself. The things you learn there will help you live your life well, not just make money well. People I see asking the prof "is this going to be on the exam" and then only paying attention if the prof says, yes, it is, are completely missing the point. You're at an institution with great minds. Talk to your fellow students, talk to your profs, go to your library and read some books and journal articles that you wouldn't otherwise have access to. You have such great resources at your fingertips while in school, but most people seem to not understand that.
Gonna quote myself here cuz it seems like people skated by the realness.

TBH, personal statements are all about writing what they wanna hear. Do your research and see what the university/program is about. Then mold your statement around that.

Lol dId u even read the article? Most of the people that cant find work for their majors got a degree in arts or humanities. I pointed out that programmers, mathematicians, and economists are in demand and the article confirmed it. I promise you, these majors will always be in demand

internships are smart and helpful. But realize that many organizations are in the business of using internships as a way to get free work. Additionally, unless you are gonna stay at that organization, you better make sure that internship is related to your field of choice. Don't get suckered.

Networking is were it's at. It's by far the most important thing you could possibly do in college. To some extent it's more important than your GPA (although you better have at least a 2.5 minimum)

My CS teacher tells me it's actually becoming more popular for companies to hire a bunch of people as "contractors" for a year, then once the year is up they only hire the few that they liked the best

Also, people saying GPA doesn't matter, that's true, to an extent. I know some people with lower GPA's who are still very smart, and some with higher GPA's who are dumbasses. However, what you ideally want to do is be very smart, able, and have a high GPA. Make university the win-win for yourself, if at all possible.

lmao, what kind of programmers? computer programmers aint sh*t, mathematicians take a phd to get anywhere besides teaching and economists...lets not even go there.

you have it even more wrong when you say some stupid sh*t like "these majors" will always be in demand.

You need to stay your a.ss in school and never leave.

School in America is crazy. I was looking at American grad schools and I was like fu*k all that, it's so expensive. Like, it's expensive here compared to Europe, but a four year degree still only costs like 30 Gs MAX. Grad school in America is 40 Gs for two years. Now granted, I'll probably get some financial help cuz of grades, but god damn.

Will very much agree w/this. If you're majoring in a Liberal Arts degree like History for me, it's all bout building networks through your History Dept. heads. And interning like a mug @ places like museums and whatnot. In fact, my advisor was a political science specialist that worked w/the White House and he had some connects in D.C. After a couple months w/him, I was able to get an internship @ the Smithsonian Institute this summer, while getting credit @ that. If you're goin to college and gettin a Liberal Arts degree, you're gonna have to do more than just go to school and earn good grades.

It's all depends of what u want in life. If you want to keep striving, having a career, making good money, go to college...

If you want to start your business and have total freedom, don't go to college and just go do it. (you spend money to make money right???) That's how you become successful...
