because the list is about the "most important" cities in hip hop. not the hottest atm.
exactly if that wast the case, NY wouldnt be #1

thats why i would have LA #2, but if its at the moment yeah LA has slowed down. even though kendrick bringing that sh*t back.

In the past 10 years Atlanta has brought in 10-15 plaques or more. LA Just had Game....This is about today...New York will always have the #1 spot because it birth hip hop

But besides a couple cool underground acts, Game, and Snoop being more of a celeb than a rapper, LA aint been doing sh*t.
Its overall not just today or they wouldn't be bringing up 90s rappers

LA still got more classics and respect than the entire south

...Lets Be Real Now. If LA Aint Been Doing Nothing....Then You Know New York Havent Been Nothing Either. Forget That "its the birth of hip hop" If "this about TODAY". I Mean If Its About Today...Atlanta, Miami, etc. Should Be In Top 3 to Top 5 Since ATL Rap Scene, YMCMB, and Other Southern Artists Been Running The Game As of "Today" For Some Years Now.

Now Lets Keep It 100.....ATL Is Having Their Era But Over The West Coast? We Talking Overall Which Means The New ATL Scene Should Be Thanking The West Coast For "Gangsta Rap".
Gangsta Rap is popular in ATL but it doesnt move much here. Outkast going Diamond, Ludacris sellin 2, 3, and 4 million copies per album, and TI getting more pop by each release sells here. See how many gold plaques Gucci has, ill wait ....Only real ATL artist on some gangsta sh*t to really move like that was Young. You cant move NY from #1 cause it birthed hip hop, but you can move LA because besides Game, you cant really say yall did anything mainstream in the past 10 years. I mean hell, even today NY has Hov and Nicki getting plaques....who yall got?..I'll wait lol

Another thing to point out is right now the industry is shifting....Most of the business that was getting done in LA and NY is now happening in ATL and Miami....I dont mean the artists, I mean the business...Labels are literally building their companies in the south more, mainly because this is where the money at. You would have an easier chance at getting signed/business going with Atlantic or Warner in ATL, than you would in NY or LA nowadays.....but 10-15 years ago n*ggas in the south couldnt even get in contact with labels and such....Remember Slim Thug and Luda both once said they did what they did cause the closest label person was in Manhattan

Its different now, sorry

I can't argue with this list. Thought my city may have been top 5 but really no city to knock off.

I will say this though the underground Detroit Hip-Hop scene is tragically underrated, from cats I grew up listening to like Rock Bottom(Big Herk- Guilty as Charged one of the great hip-hop albums ever), Street Lords(Blade, Juan>>) Eastside Chedda Boys, classic acts like Awesome Dre, newer acts like Danny Brown and Stretch Money, Dusty McFly, Helluva, Lodge Boys, DoughBoyzCashout(hottest in the streets), lyrical cats like Quest Mcody, Marvwon...

Don't sleep Detroit could easily be in the top 5.

And New York may be overrated they really haven't made much new noise in the last 10 years that's a. Whole era who they got to show the A.$.A.P crew??
You bringin' back memories of hearing all of those artist plus more on Belle Isle and Rouge Park.

Baltimore shouldn't be on this list we haven't had any successful rappers and DMX doesn't count.

I dont get detroit... eminems impact is deniable of course... but who else from there really did somethin big? Kid rock? lol

Not necessarily very big commercially, but Detroit has been very influential in the world of hip-hop and they brought their contribution enough to be in the top 5 imo.

Dilla
Eminem
D12
Royce (we can also say Slaughterhouse is based out of Detroit)
Obie Trice
Slum Village
Big Sean
Black Milk
Danny Brown

You forgot Xzibit and Kid rock give us all of ours.

The D should be top 5 easily. Not to mention the influence Detroit old School scene has had on today's top artist. But these n*ggas don't know sh*t. Damn near every rapper has sample music from Detroit.

On top of that Em is damn near the best in any rap category you can think of.
