...Lets Be Real Now. If LA Aint Been Doing Nothing....Then You Know New York Havent Been Nothing Either. Forget That "its the birth of hip hop" If "this about TODAY". I Mean If Its About Today...Atlanta, Miami, etc. Should Be In Top 3 to Top 5 Since ATL Rap Scene, YMCMB, and Other Southern Artists Been Running The Game As of "Today" For Some Years Now.
Now Lets Keep It 100.....ATL Is Having Their Era But Over The West Coast? We Talking Overall Which Means The New ATL Scene Should Be Thanking The West Coast For "Gangsta Rap".
Gangsta Rap is popular in ATL but it doesnt move much here. Outkast going Diamond, Ludacris sellin 2, 3, and 4 million copies per album, and TI getting more pop by each release sells here. See how many gold plaques Gucci has, ill wait
....Only real ATL artist on some gangsta sh*t to really move like that was Young. You cant move NY from #1 cause it birthed hip hop, but you can move LA because besides Game, you cant really say yall did anything mainstream in the past 10 years. I mean hell, even today NY has Hov and Nicki getting plaques....who yall got?..I'll wait lol
Another thing to point out is right now the industry is shifting....Most of the business that was getting done in LA and NY is now happening in ATL and Miami....I dont mean the artists, I mean the business...Labels are literally building their companies in the south more, mainly because this is where the money at. You would have an easier chance at getting signed/business going with Atlantic or Warner in ATL, than you would in NY or LA nowadays.....but 10-15 years ago n*ggas in the south couldnt even get in contact with labels and such....Remember Slim Thug and Luda both once said they did what they did cause the closest label person was in Manhattan
Its different now, sorry
