Look up hyperbole and you won't try to make vague comparisons a 1:1...(by the way you seriously fu*ked up on your end of the comparison, but that's a bottomless argument)

you would be opposed to the athletes getting a percentage of the money generated? sh*t has to go to somebody... united states makes millions because these guys play. Joe Schmo would not generate the same revenue.
So you believe that every athlete that participates in the Olympics should get a cut into the revenue?

the money would be better put to the people devote their lives and work for the 4 years that aren't the games to ensure that the olympics go off without a hitch than it would be to making some millionaires richer imho

edit; and things liek dude posted, im pretty sure ray allen would agree if he stepped outside of his bubble for a minute
so what the olympics commitee is supposed to pay the US military when they have the biggest fu*kin budget in the entire country. or close to it? that makes no fu*kin sense. you act as if athletes have no role in how this country operates. totally false. they are as much a part of the propaganda machine as any other media/entertainment industry. if they promote american propaganda they should get paid for it. the US military gets plenty, too much even.

don't talk economics if you don't understand it...the demand of his services makes his price. The consumer, i.e. the people of this country give him his price. Even if it wasn't that way it would be government regulated, which would still mean the country giving him his price. The people vote every night with their wallet
nope ur wrong...the majority of the people in this country are mid to low class. The people that attend games most frequently are higher class (as far as income). so there eis no vote becuz if it was im sure the people would be less inclined to pay an athlete millions.

your talking economics im speaking to the fact that regardless they will make what they do so there is no reason to complain about paying them when you dont have to use them.

i said nothing about the military. you confusing me with the other dude who brought that into it..i was more referrring to the countless people who organize the olympics.. and charities / other organizations that NEED hte money. the system is fine the way it is

people are ignoring the fact that if these professionals decided not to compete first thing people will yell is they are unpatriotic so they basically are fired to protect their brand.

if you can't see the obvious distinction between somebody working behind the scenes to organize the events and somebody actually trying to win them, then that's on you.

there is a distinction. but yet again, you keep projecting your own ideals about which should be more important to an individual. as if nobody could possibly get any sort of value from volunteering on the corporate side. i would, personally.

if you see it that way someone could say the Olympic exposure would help them with sponsorships...you're reaching...like I said caving into criticisms that might last a month isn't the equivalent of being forced

it's a fulltime job to put on events like that. there's a difference between something that is your sole source of income and something that you spend a few weeks doing in your offseason with all expenses paid. i didn't say everybody has to see it that way, but if you don't want to do it without getting paid, then stay home because those are the wrong motivations.

most people touched on everything

Just because the players don't get paid a check for participating, doesn't mean they won't cash in on it anyway How much does an olympic gold medal go far?? lol... If they don't care about the experience and take no pride in the medal, then just sell the sh*t

The players get a sh*tload of other endorsement oppurtunites also... Micheal Phelps made MILLIONS off endorsments... As well as the gymnastic cats and others... on a smaller scale, other olympic cats cashed in plenty.....The exposure of playing in the olympics as an NBA player is cash in itself basicly

Just because U don't a check to play, doesn't' mean your not cashing in at the end of the day

Let alone taking some pride in playing for your country.... Is kind of a shame how a lot of the foriegn cats are more pasioniate about playing Ball fo thier country then the USA... Exspecialy since basketball means more to us, then it does to other countries...

like I said before when cats play for their other countries that is as competitive as it gets for them, the NBA players play in a far better league and are far better players for the most part. The foreign dudes who play for other countries want nothing more than to beat the NBA dudes. Recently I see some fire from the USA squad but it will die down again once they win more frequently. Do you know how many athletes the US sends over? These people dont all see easy bucks from endorsements just like the 10th men on the Dream Team won't see anymore than he already did. For cats like Kobe it is your platform to show your greatness but if your Deron Williams you collect a trophy at the risk of your livelihood back home.

you're arguing against yourself. you're the one going on about forced labor and "working for peanuts," not me.

all i've said is that the olympics are big business, and they don't pay the people generating the revenue. which is why certain players understandably don't wanna fu*k with it. and if it's all about "patriotism and honor," then make the corporate employees volunteer too
If we all decided to get paid off of something we were involved in that's big business then none of it would be big business anymore.

Just because they make money on the Olympics doesn't mean participants should be paid.
