David Stern wants change to age rule

NEW YORK -- David Stern would love a system in which Anthony Davis and the rest of Kentucky's freshmen stars were required to try to repeat.

Instead, the NBA commissioner could end up calling Davis' name in June as the first pick in the draft.

The league wasn't able to change its draft eligibility rules during collective bargaining last year. The rules require an American player to be 19 years old and a year out of high school. The players' a.ssociation would only agree to form a committee to discuss changes, and is unlikely to consent to an increase without some concession from owners.

While Stern says the NBA "would love to add a year," he's pleased that the age limit, instituted in 2005, has kept NBA scouts out of high school gyms.

They need to let them come straight from HS again

A big majority of the greats came straight to the league
By big majority of the greats you mean 5 players? For every Lebron there are about 3 Nbudi Ebi's.

Let them come straight out of high school but if they go to college they must stay at least 3 years.

Meh, I think you should be able to come out of high school to the league.

GM's are going to make dumb decisions regardless if they come out of college later or earlier

I like this move, and I mean you got the NBDL, if the kids are not grasping the game quick enough. it ain't like they got options if the kids don't adapt quickly enough to the NBA.

most players that come out of high school don't become nothing but role players 2yrs in college is a good age.

the only flip side to letting them come out of high school is the NBA experience to get better as player.

I think kids who come out of college is more polished players than the ones coming out of H.S. and they will develop quicker than the ones out of high school.

Is he really this stupid or am I missing something? Is there some rule saying you can't scout high school teams?

I also would add that you don't have to sign with the team that drafted you, you know, like if you arent drafted where you think you would be, you can go to college (like in baseball)

As long as they don't hire an agent, they should be able to, or at least play for the NBDL affiliate, I always said HS Players should go to the NBDL for one year if they came out of high school straight to the pros. Look how big Minor League Baseball is. NBA could be caking by expanding the NBDL.

I would prefer high school players go to the NBDL than the NBA.

I don't think the powers that be would allow this to happen.

This.... I've always wondered why they don't do it this way.. Kids can get drafted straight from HS but they would have to go to the NBDL... If they do well in the D League then they can move up to the NBA.... Otherwise, they can do to college...

2 lockouts in his reign as commissioner, his time is coming soon, but the guy who is in the driver seat to take his place is a near carbon copy of Stern
