And this is exactly why i put off going for so long and used to only go when i really had too. Cant stand my dentist, i feel like im in auto showroom when i go there, everything is a sales pitch and they spend more time trying to sell you sh*t than anything else, and sadly most the time its sh*t you dont really need. Remember once i went there with a chipped tooth, was told my tooth was really fu*ked up, needed to get a root canal and a crown and they handed me a bill for like $2000-2500, told them to fu*k off, went to a different dentist who kinda just laughed and told me it was just a filling and did it for $100 and that was like 5 years ago and nothing wrong with it
The $100 treatment could have been ok and you were fortunate that you havent had any problems with the $100 treatment but most patients dont realize that if the dentist, or any other health provider, doesnt inform you of what the "gold standard" is in dental care and just gave you that $100 filling with no conversation about anything else and something went wrong the patient could sue him. If you would have walked in and he looked at you and a.ssumed you were too poor to afford something you would have been insulted.
