I never really did do high reps... Let alone 20 reps lol. I always stuck to the low rep high weight. I always though anything over 15 was to light or to many reps... And i damn sure didnt think his big a.ss did high reps

Me too.

All I've been doing is strength training. Heavy weight, low reps. You put on some size with strength gains obviously, but, correct me if I'm wrong here, you also need to stimulate the muscles with a multitude of exercises from different angles using a hypertrpohy type method to really get them "blown up" or "expanded". At the same time you also need to go super heavy to put on size... ?

Using different weights/reps/ROM/sets/etc. recruit and work different muscle fibers.

An important factor in making the muscle grow is time under tension (TUT). A muscle doesn't know the weight you are using but rather the tension.

Of course you are able to keep the tension using lighter weight because your muscles have adapted to that and the tension it is creating is weak. When you drop the weight and perform DB curls with strict form and using nothing but your biceps the "light" weight is actually stimulating the muscle more so the weight that you thought was once light is now your heavy weight.
