Not trying to take away from their success here. its dope they found out how to do this, but how can a gene that nature shook off, be good to bring back? Evolution naturally dropped those gene traits for a reason...I would have felt different if they didnt say they unlocked "ancient genes".

All scientific research can benefit us, it's not a waste of time just because your simple a.ss can't figure it out.

This research is teaching science how to modify and utilize genes, things they learned from this may some day help us filter out genes that cause hereditary diseases and things like that.

Science is often times about baby steps. There's a bunch of problems science solved or helped explain based on research on things you would never think could be connected.

Not all genes "dropped" by evolution were worthless, they were just unnecessary at a given time for a given situation, but could still be useful in other places.

Besides, I think this research is probably more to learn about HOW to harness genes than the actual genes they are messing with.
