I was a counselor for a Scared Straight type program in my state. My job was to sit with these young individuals and talk to them about whatever was on their mind. My job was to not scream at them or belittle them. About 90% of them talked to me like a human being and didn't like being yelled at. While I was in the lounge with the rest of the staff, one of the officers mentioned that he "hoped one of them took a swing at him". I just shook my head. He saw me shake my head and went off on me like I was one the juveniles. Dude was like 5'7 and 160lbs. I'm a bit taller than him at 6'3. I told him 3 things:
1. I'm a staff member, just like you. I'm not a juvenile particpating in the program.
2. I make way more money than you.
3. I'll knock your a.ss out.
He calmed down and eventually apologized days later. Tough guys with bagdes.
