Mike Brown Call's Out Kobe Defense

"[Lakers coach Mike] Brown, however, did critique Bryant's defense. After Chauncey Billups hit a 3-pointer in the third quarter when Bryant was slow to close out, Brown immediately called timeout even though it was just 53 seconds after halftime.

"Kobe is going to be fine offensively," Brown said. "But defensively, Kobe was just as guilty as everybody else at not contesting shots and so he as well as the rest of the guys have to make sure that they focus in on that area of the floor."

Interesting. Kobe Bryant is certainly not use to such public criticism, at least by his own coaching staff. And Mike Brown, who infamously enabled some of LeBron James' worse habits in Cleveland, is certainly not used to going on record with analysis like this, and it appears as if only one of the two participants here is following through on his New Year's resolution, two weeks early.

It also is worth pointing out that this was from a preseason game in the third week of December, and that the NBA Finals (a stage the Lakers have ascended to three times since 2008) will take place sometime in mid-June. Take that for however you see your particular half-filled/emptied glass.

Kobe plays down to the level of his team, everybody remembers how he purposely threw away the series vs phoenix a few years ago.

Good start for Brown. He can't make the mistake that Rudy T made and try to cuddle Kobe. Brown doesn't have the success and respect that Phil has but he has to make it a point to not be afraid of Kobe. If Kobe cares about winning #6 he'll buy in.

The fu*k are yall blabbering about?

That's what coaches are suppose to do. Kobe isn't immune to fu*king up and he's not immune to criticism. At the end of the day, Kobe busted his a.ss for the rest of the game trying to do what HIS COACH asked him to do.

If LeBron James was above Mike Brown's criticism then, by default, so is Kobe.

I wonder if Mike even knows what he did...

This isn't high school basketball. Whether you like it or not, we're talking about NBA egos. It's not a coach's job to call out EVERY single player for EVERY single mistake.

Mike didn't have a job because of LeBron. Larry Brown got ran out because of Iverson.

It's bigger than just coaching. Unless your name is Phil Jackson or Pat Riley, you have to tread lightly with certain players and even then it may not matter. Ask Jerry Sloan.

for what they are about to let Kobe do on offense he has every right to call him out. I thought everyone noticed though during the game last night, he was in mambas face. I like Mike Brown so im happy he isn't going the Lebron route and honestly I think Kobe loves being accountable unlike some other athletes who are receding.

Unless moves are made this aint gonna be pretty

If Mike Brown keep this up he risks losing the best player he's ever coached.
