just listened to between me you and liberation, that sh*t definitely goes hard man.. but as far as introspective stuff goes I feel like it was pretty straightforward (the 3 situations that is, not the metaphors woven inside the verses) and the rhyme scheme was a bit linear.. compared to another similarly deep verse like his verse on respiration w/ blackstar

not trying to say that song isnt on a classic level, just common has a LOT of conscious songs that are dope as hell
that's what I like about those songs that I listed though. You listen to dear mama slippin etc they're not metaphorical they're straight forward and raw. That allows for them to be enjoyed by people who can't follow deep metaphors, thus touching a wider audience.

Dope as expected. No ID brought the heat. Com did as well.

Only 2 tracks that I didn't really like, Raw and Windows.. not bad by any means, just thought the other tracks were better.

I can definitely feel that, although slippin, dear mama, and all i got is you were beautiful classics because not only were they personal, they were about the one and only person you have when your back is against the wall. there is much simplicity in that kind of love, and i completely agree with you on that note.

However i felt like between me you and liberation was more from an outside perspective giving depth to real situations felt by others who were close to him.. i dont know if that makes any sense.. that's why i judged the song by how much thought it provoked and how intricate he weaved the story..

it's kind of like the difference between lost ones (perspective) and breakdown (personal turmoil).. haha hate to use a j cole reference but it's kind of what i've been jamming lately so that comparison came to mind..

smh @ people thinking this ISNT better than Finding Forever. that sh*t was average...at least we all know its better than UMC.

My personal top 10:
1) Like Water For Chocolate - one of my top 5 favorite albums ever
2) Resurrection - came out before i was a fan but i grew to love it
3) One Day It'll All Make Sense - very mature album, love the concepts throughout.
4) The Dreamer / The Believer - this is after 2 spins.didnt like Be as much as others but i liked it alot
5) Be - Very good album but a tad bit overrated.
6) Electric Circus - Com's most underrated album. has its missteps but isnt as bad as people say
7) Can I Borrow A Dollar? - Solid debut. Would have ranked alot higher back in the day for me.
8) Finding Forever - Dont care for this. its basically Be Part II but not as good.
9) Universal Mind Control - Weird album but i did like a few songs on it.

i mean lets be honest though..

its easy to make a classic album when you're only giving us 10 songs..

lets say a n*gga records 60 songs in 2 years..u telling me 10 of those songs are not gonna really bang? its when you start going in the 15 song an album category thats when you start putting fillers in..
It's not easy to make a classic album no matter what you do.

bruh i guarantee you if you take most albums that is being put out..and you take the best 9-10 songs from it and get rid of the rest..albums that we consider 'average releases" would actually improve to "strong release" even if its not classic status..it would be strong.

thats what common has mastered..how to put out a strong release by putting out 9-10 songs on his cd...

i aint knocking it like that..but im just saying i see through it.........dude's album is 50 mins..well more like 45.

but outkast didnt have to play that game to give us classic albums..just saying..
Yeah, there's a big difference between a "strong release" and a "classic" but I see what you're trying to say.

If it's easy to make a classic album with only 10 songs..that's what people should do.

This album was very very good..in a year with a lot of good albums. Cloth, Celebration, and Lovin I Lost are my favorites on my first couple of listens..of course Ghetto Dreams is dope as well but that's been out for months.
