Not a 49er fan so neutral. They don't ask that much out of him because they don't have to with Gore and their defense. So why not try to limit mistakes? Everybody's gameplan isn't to pour on the points (Saints, Packers, etc) and not play a lick of defense.
Have you seen some of the throws he's made this game. He's showing great poise in the pocket. Throwing the ball away or getting out of bounds when he needs to. The throw to Vernon in the 1st was where nobody could get it and then he follows it up with a should-have-been TD with Ted Ginn. Alex Smith is nothing like a Trent Dilfer.
Soon as they have to play the Saints or Packers and they jump to a big lead, his game managing dink and dunk passes will be thrown out the window. Then he will have to turn into a real passer which he is not and that will be their downfall.
That deep ball he threw was just a chuck up in the air, could have gone either way. They had p!ss poor coverage on him and didn't make the tackle.
Their weakness is the secondary and it will get exposed. Their defense is good, but it's not on the level of the 2000's Raven defense who carried their QB to a ring.
