what you don't understand is that the economy isn't how it use to be when they made the deal for 57%...To me, 50-52% is ideal for the players since the league is losing money. What good are the players if the league can't make money and then the whole a.ssociation is gone? yea, without the players there isn't a product but without owners, there isn't players or teams...Stern made the NBA what it is today and its only getting more popular throughout the world.
the players don't know what they are doing, they are just listening to the heads of the committee..half of these players never finished or went to college and you want them to negotiate on a multi-billion dollar business? Take the deal because I guarantee if they go through the court system, they will not get 51%.
but 57% isn't a fixed amout of dollars. their percentage fluctuates with the economy. if the league has a down year, that 57% is still less money because it's proportional. and the fact is they haven't been having down years. the real problem here is ridiculously high non-player costs. revenue has actually been UP in recent years. it increased 5% last year. if non-player costs were the same as they were 10 years ago, it would have been the most profitable season in NBA history. how is the league going to actually be bringing in more and more revenue, and yet u claim to be losing MORE money than before, all while players r making a fixed proportion? that means the revenue owners have been taking in has been growing but they've been spending so much money ELSEWHERE that it cancelled it out. where is it all going?
even so, players have said OK we'll eat that, but they're trying to squeeze them even more.
