Doesn't make sense to trade him when we have no in house alternatives. All the other free agents RF'ers are garbage besides Beltran and he's too old and is more of a DH at this point in his career. 1 year of Swisher is fine with me considering the top CF/RF'ers are free agents after next year (Hamilton, Kemp, Ethier, Bourn, Quentin, Victorino, B.Upton, Del. Young).

Nathan says Mets will be on radar this winter

Joe Nathan told Newsday on Saturday that he would be open to signing with the Mets this offseason.
The Twins declined Nathan's $12.5 million option for 2012 on Tuesday, making him a free agent. He went to high school and college in New York, and wouldn't mind returning to the state to finish out his career. "The Mets are going to be on my radar," the right-hander said. "It's a team I followed growing up around this area. That would be exciting."
Albert Pujols declined to address whether this would be his last season with the Cardinals in a post game interview Friday.
"You know what? I’m not even thinking about that," Pujols said. "I’m thinking about, you know, we’re the world champions and I’m going to celebrate and whenever that time comes, then we’ll deal with it. But right now, I enjoy this. You never know when it’s going to be your last one so I’m going to enjoy this one like the same way that I did my first one." Pujols is a free agent for the first time this winter and could be in line for a contract in the range of $200 million. Apart from his five-hit, three-home run explosion in Game 3, he went an un-Pujols-like 1-for-19 in the World Series.

Can't deal Swish. You wouldn't get more than a low-tier prospect from AA. Might as well keep him. With your payroll, one year of Nick Swisher, then going after those top guys you named in 2012 makes almost too much sense.

Mets traded away Heath Bell

Mets aren't going to blow the bank on a closer. Nathan makes too much sense. He'd thrive in that little ball park and league.

On November 15, 2006, Bell was traded to San Diego, along with pitcher Royce Ring, for outfielder Ben Johnson and relief pitcher Jon Adkins



But yeah, they'd be silly to break the bank on a closer right now.

If the Dodgers don't get an extension done with Matt Kemp before ST, people will be lining up to try and pry him away from LA.

Better get your #1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 prospects ready to pack their bags, though (and that might not even be enough).

Nobody's trading them any of that for Kemp who's in his walk year.

Reyes and Prince were supposed locks to be traded and neither was moved.

Enjoy your 1st rounder and a sandwich pick for Kemp after next season LA

As of today, players with expired contracts are eligible to file for free agency, but teams still have until Thursday at 12:01am ET to exclusively negotiate with their free agents. So far though, the Red Sox have yet to make a contract offer to closer Jonathan Papelbon, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford.

During his introductory press conference this week, Ben Cherington indicated there had been some dialogue with Papelbon and that he expects the two sides to continue to talk. However, the new Red Sox GM tells Bradford that he doesn't expect a contract to be signed before Thursday: "My impression is that Pap will probably get into free agency. I'm not ruling anything out, but that's my impression."

The Red Sox figure to offer Papelbon arbitration in November, so if the Type-A free agent does sign with another club, the Sox would snag two draft picks out of the deal. For a more in-depth look at Papelbon's free agent stock, check out MLBTR's Dan Mennella's piece from back in August.

Paps should just accept arbitration from Boston. He's could get a raise to probably 14MM and then hit free agency again after next year. There's too many closers on the market for him to get what he thinks he deserves and i'm sure Boston knows that.
