Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Angels are pursuing free agent first baseman Albert Pujols.
It appears that the Halos might be the "mystery team" that Bob Nightengale of USA Today previously alluded to, though all Rosenthal is revealing about their interest at this point is that there are "ongoing conversations." Many have speculated that the Angels would be players for Pujols once he hit free agency, but this is the first time they've been linked to him since the Hot Stove season started. Buckle up.

Didn't know signing two mediocre middle relievers would excite a whole fan base especially after losing their star player

It’s deja vu all over again.

A day after the report that the White Sox asked the Yankees for Jesus Montero and Manny Banuelos in return for John Danks comes word from Bob Klapisch that the A’s wanted the same package in Gio Gonzalez trade talks.

Which at least is somewhat justifiable. Gonzalez is better than Danks, plus he’s a full four years away from free agency, making him a one of the game’s more valuable pitchers. Gonzalez has combined to go 31-21 while finishing with ERAs of 3.23 and 3.12 the last two years. Danks has never finished with an ERA that good, and he actually came in at 4.33 last season.

The Yankees still weren’t going to give up both for Gonzalez, but the A’s certainly have no reason to part with their young left-hander for much less. According to Klapisch, the A’s were willing to settle for Dellin Betances instead of Banuelos, but that still didn’t get a deal done.

The Royals, who can offer top outfield prospect Wil Myers and one of their better pitching prospects, have also expressed interest in Gonzalez. However, there’s nothing to indicate that anything will get done anytime soon.

I honestly wouldn't be upset at giving up Betts and montero. Betts might never pan out and montero is a 21 year old DH who they don't want to catch. Our farm is stocked with catchers romine and Sanchez.

Gio is a proven #2 signed dirt cheap for the next 4 years. I have a feeling cashman is gonna walk away with gio when it's all said and done. That and darvish if he ever gets posted.

Steve Popper of the Bergen Record reports that the deal sending Angel Pagan to the Giants in exchange for Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez is complete, pending physicals.

The trade has been confirmed by various other outlets. The Giants will get an upgrade in center field, while the Mets will get a replacement for Pagan and much-needed relief help, so it sounds like a pretty good deal for both sides. All three players are arbitration-eligible, so the Giants will probably save a little bit of money in the deal.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Tigers are "trying to make a strong push" for Athletics' left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Slusser has confirmed the Tigers' interest via three sources. However, they aren't sure their proposal would be able to match that of the Yankees. Gonzalez, 26, posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while striking out 197 batters over 202 innings this past season. The southpaw is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter.

Detroit he's ours!

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that the Phillies have dropped out of the bidding for Aramis Ramirez, leaving the Brewers and Angels as the top contenders to sign the third baseman. According to Knobler, the Phillies have decided to keep Placido Polanco as their third baseman and make another run at re-signing Jimmy Rollins.
