i disagree. that's a big a.ss bat inserted into quite a potent lineup that is still growing and gettin better. bautista/joey might instantly become best 3/4 combo in baseball.

blue jays still need some sort of bullpen to win...

didn't they blow something like 30 saves last year?
Yep. They have no closer and no type of dominant set-up guys.

Paps and Bell are gone. Who the hell would they sign? K-Rod, Cordero?

Still a 3rd place team, nice lineup but still 3rd place.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the White Sox asked for Yankees prospect Manny Banuelos in return for John Danks during a recent negotiation.
The Yankees balked at the asking price, but they remain very interested in acquiring Danks and will continue discussions at a later date. Banuelos, 20, is one of the top young pitchers in the minor leagues. Danks, 26, registered a 4.33 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 27 starts this past year for Chicago.
Kenny Williams smoking that Chi-Town piff i see Danks is coming off his worst season, no way he gets traded for our top pitching prospect. Plus he's a FA after next year so they have no leverage. Wait for the price to come down Cash.

I'm really surprised they didn't go after Heath Bell. He was exactly what they needed
They were in on him but he chose the Marlins over Toronto. No state tax

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com heard Monday that a recent meeting between Phillies officials and the agent for Jimmy Rollins "did not go well."
Rollins and his agent, Dan Lozano, are still pushing for a five-year contract. And the Phillies do not plan on presenting an offer of that length. The 33-year-old shortstop is also drawing free agent interest from the Brewers, but it's doubtful Milwaukee would give him five years either. Rollins batted just .268/.338/.399 this past season.
the fu*k is wrong with Rollins thinking he's worth a 5 year contract now? This dude is more delusional than Derek Jeter was last year.

Phils fans ya'll ready to usher in the Freddy Galvis era?

meh we paid for a nice young closer in BJ Ryan few years back and look where that got us.

closers come and go. there's only a handful of dominant closers who keep the job for many years. a bullpen doesn't take long to build, the turnover is high for a relief position. and u can get solid ones every winter. but yeah that's obv a big goal for AA this winter.

Last night Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reported that four teams had made offers to C.J. Wilson and now Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram writes that one of those offers is a six-year contract.

And it’s not from the Rangers, who’re scheduled to meet with Wilson’s agent tonight or tomorrow.

According to Jeff Wilson there’s a fifth team in the mix for the free agent left-hander that has so far “remained anonymous” along with the Rangers, Nationals, Angels, and Marlins.

The Twins have agreed to re-sign Matt Capps to a one-year deal with an option, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman. Steve Popper of the Bergen Record tweeted earlier that Capps was likely heading back to Minnesota. The agreement is pending a physical, tweets Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Dodgers have signed Jerry Hairston Jr. to a two-year deal worth $6MM plus incentives, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). The 35-year-old has passed his physical. Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the contract will pay Hairston $2.25MM in 2012 and $3.75MM in 2013.

Hairston hit .270/.344/.383 in 376 plate appearances for the Brewers and Nationals in 2011. His production was remarkably consistent before and after the Nats moved him at the trade deadline -- he had a .727 OPS for both teams. The Brewers and Giants were among the other clubs interested in signing Hairston.

The Minnesota Twins, in search of starting pitching help, have left-hander Jeff Francis and right-hander Edwin Jackson on their radar, writes Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com.

In addition, the Twins are considering Japanese pitchers Hisashi Iwakuma and Tsuyoshi Wada, tweets Phil Mackey of 1500 ESPN Radio.

The Twins appear reluctant to rely on Nick Blackburn and Kevin Slowey, though they are "wary" of Jackson's asking price, Morosi adds.

Kyle Gibson is the club's top pitching prospect but he had Tommy John surgery in September and can;t be counted on for 2012.

Among other free agents the Twins could consider are Aaron Harang, Aaron Cook, Erik Bedard and Rich Harden. The Twins, tweeted Lavelle E. Neal III, had interest in Chris Capuano before he inked a deal with the Dodgers.

Jim Duquette of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM Radio reports that the Nationals are the previously unidentified team that's offered C.J. Wilson a six-year contract.
The Nationals have been viewed by many as the favorites to sign Wilson, and if Duquette's report is correct, they could really be in the driver's seat. Wilson is reportedly looking for a six-year, $100 million deal, but many figured he would have a hard time netting such a contract. Perhaps he will after all.
Nats lost again?
