I'm sure the phillies are talking to paps to take away boras' leverage with Madson. Paps in the national league = sub 1.50 era?

It's crazy that the phillies can afford papelbon, Madson, Rollins and a rf'er and still be under last years payroll.

According to Patrick Newman's NPB Tracker, the Hiroshima Carp have made an offer to Hiroki Kuroda.
"I’m happy that they would evaluate my contributions like that," Kuroda told Japan's Nikkan Sports. "Naturally, I’m happy. A feeling that they really want to win came across." The 36-year-old free agent right-hander is expected to either re-sign with the Dodgers this winter or return to his native country. He posted a fantastic 3.07 ERA and 161/49 K/BB ratio in 202 innings this season.
knew this dude was out

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Brewers are "now targeting" free agent shortstop Jose Reyes.
The Brewers cut ties with shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt at the end of the 2011 season, so they have an opening at the position. But Reyes is likely to command one of the richest contracts on the market this winter, and it would shock the baseball world if the Brewers were to win the bidding. The Marlins and Giants are known to have serious interest in the dynamic 28-year-old.
.....

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi heard from a source that Yu Darvish might not be posted this offseason.
In order for Darvish to be made available to major league teams, his Japanese club -- the Nippon Ham f!ghters -- must first clear him to leave. And they've yet to make a decision on that front. MLB clubs that are desperate for starting pitching might not have the patience to wait another several weeks. The Nationals, Yankees, Blue Jays and Rangers were known to have interest.

He'd be an unrestricted FA after next season though without the posting nonsense

Prince and Boras are probably looking at over 200MM. But I see them settling for Teixiera/A-Gonz money. Unless the Nationals fu*k sh*t up again

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Yankees are interested in free agent Edwin Jackson, in addition to C.J. Wilson and Yu Darvish.
Heyman also mentions that Wilson and Yankees executive Billy Eppler grew up together, so that could be a minor factor when the lefty chooses a team. Though he's often a tease with his raw ability, Jackson never gets hurt and would be a solid stabilizer in the Yankees' rotation. The Yanks almost surely will sign at least one more pitcher even after inking CC Sabathia to an extension.
Edwin can eat innings, stay healthy, and possibly win 15+ games for us next year.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that although there's still a gap in the talks between the Phillies and free agent Ryan Madson's agent, progress is being made.
The Phillies plan to bring in a closer, and Heyman says they prefer to re-sign Madson rather than go after Jonathan Papelbon due to clubhouse continuity, as well as the perception that Papelbon will get a bigger deal. Papelbon is also a Type A free agent, so the Phillies would have to surrender a first-round draft pick to sign

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Giants are no longer expected to try to re-sign Carlos Beltran after acquiring Melky Cabrera, putting the Red Sox in the driver's seat for the free agent outfielder.
It's a surprise that the Giants would deem their outfield situation solved after the addition of Cabrera and not still make a legitimate effort to retain Beltran. Perhaps, though, they've decided to use that money on Jose Reyes or Jimmy Rollins. A competing executive predicted to Heyman that Beltran would wind up with the Red Sox on a two-year deal.
I knew it SF would pass on Beltran after getting Melky.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that an executive was informed by the Marlins that Logan Morrison is "off limits."
The executive guessed that Morrison could be pried away for James Shields, but no one else. It's hard to believe LoMo would be totally off the table given the tension between he and Marlins management, but the team also probably realizes that trading him now would be selling low. Morrison could either stay in the outfield or move to first base in 2012, depending on the other moves the Marlins make.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Phillies and Ryan Madson are now in "serious discussions" and a deal could be done soon.
A deal makes sense for both sides, as the Phillies need a closer and Madson doesn't want to leave. Signing someone like Jonathan Papelbon would require the Phils surrendering a draft pick, whereas Madson would not and will likely require a smaller deal. The 31-year-old posted a 2.37 ERA while converting 32 of 34 save chances this year for Philly.

A switch hitting version of JD Drew
He can still hit, and fenway park will turn him into a .300+ hitter but I can't see him playing above average D in that big a.ss RF at fenway.

As for Madson, good deal for both sides. Still wondering which team comes out the blue and signs Papelbon. Angels

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said he will explore the possibility of trading for Carlos Zambrano.
"We would have to be interested. We would have to explore it because that's what you should do. You should explore every opportunity. Carlos Zambrano is a heckuva competitor," said Moore. The GM added that the Royals "have the ability to eat any contract we feel is necessary to improve the club." Big Z is due $18 million in 2012 and has a $19.25 million vesting option for 2013, and his deal also contains a no-trade clause, which could really limit the number of teams that could pursue a deal if Zambrano wouldn't be willing to waive the clause.
What you think of this YoDoods? If the Cubs eat more than half of next year's salary, it's a decent risk.

I'd take a gamble on him if the Cubs were willing to eat almost all of the contract. Plus he worked with Rothschild.

According to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM, the Phillies are closing in on a four-year contract with Ryan Madson.
The deal could include a vesting option for a fifth year. Madson's agent Scott Boras usually doesn't work this quickly, but it's hard to see him doing much better elsewhere. The Phillies have also been in touch with Jonathan Papelbon, but it makes the most sense to keep Madson, as it won't cost them a first-round pick as compensation. Still, four years (and perhaps five) is a pretty long commitment for a relief pitcher.
Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke with the agent for free agent Mark Buehrle on Tuesday.
Not a surprise, as the Yankees are expected to check in on all prominent pitchers on the market. However, Cashman told Feinsand that they have yet to make an offer on any free agent. Buehrle, 32, was scheduled to meet with the Marlins on Tuesday and is also drawing interest from the Red Sox, Rangers, Cubs, Rockies and Nationals. The White Sox remain interested in keeping the veteran left-hander, but his price tag could grow beyond their comfort level.
do not want Buerhle

Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox were among the teams that attended the workout of Cuban outfielder Yoennis Cespedes in the Dominican Republic last week.
It's not clear who else was at the workout, but Tim Brown of Yahoo.com previously reported that the Yankees, Phillies, Marlins, Blue Jays, Giants, Nationals, Indians, A's and Pirates were among the team's interested in the 26-year-old. Cespedes is expected to land a deal similar to the one the Reds handed to Aroldis Chapman in January of 2010 (six years, $30.25 million).

Earlier today on MLB Network Radio on Sirius/XM, Braves GM Frank Wren said he is notpursuing free-agent shortstops Jose Reyes or Jimmy Rollins

According to Wren, he is more likely to find a shortstop on the trade market than through free agency.

In a post to Twitter, Jon Heyman of SI.com says the Phillies are close to a four year, $44 million deal with RHP Ryan Madson

Morosi and Rosenthal also believe James Shields, Wade Davis, Gio Gonzalez, Trevor Cahill, Jair Jurrjens, John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Chad Billingsley, and Wandy Rodriguez are all available via trade this winter.

Rosenthal also says the Nationals plan to make a major push for RHP Roy Oswalt

In his column for ESPN, Buster Olney says the Blue Jays are discussing signing a top closer, including Joe Nathan

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports confirms that the Phillies and Ryan Madson are nearing a four-year, $44 million contract.
The proposed deal includes a vesting option for 2016 valued at $13 million. Nothing is finalized yet, but this would give Madson the highest average annual value (AAV) among relief pitchers outside of Mariano Rivera. That might not last very long, though, as Jonathan Papelbon still has a chance at the biggest contract for a closer this winter. Stay tuned.

Good lord, what the hell is Papelbon going to get now?

Dude should just take arbitration, The Red Sox probably won't offer dude 50+ million contract.
