at 7, 7'1 dirk averaged 7 boards past 2 years. past 2 years melo averaged about 6 and 7 giving up more than 4 inches. past two years in the playoffs dirk's averaged i believe 8, and melo averaged 8 and 10. he's too big to be getting virtually the same numbers as carmelo.
I understand your gripe but rebounding has little to do with height and size. Its a natural nack for knowing where the ball will be and a mentality/determination thing. Most of the greatest rebounders historically werent that tall. Melo had a personal goal to average 10 a game for the year and fell short during the season. Dirk did 10 a game for 2 straight seasons i believe.

I will say dirk gets alot of annoying offensive rebounds and tip ins when he needs to. His only true knock is his defense.

hes putting up above average stats compared to the rest of the centers in the league. if he were top 5 in the league, he would be looking like shaq right now

edit: by above average i mean the gap between his stats and others' stats should be tremendous (if he were a top 5), but they are only an above average margin
He put up 27 and 15 on 63% shooting, 68% on freethrows (amazing for D12) in the Magic's only playoff series.

If he had a consistent scoring threat around him instead of a bunch of hot and cold 3 pt shooters, the Magic would be a top 3 team in the East every year.

Kobe not at the Top 5?Lebron is #1?Where is Kevin Durant? What about the man who won the NBA MVP Derrick Rose?I agree with Dirk and Dwade but a man who can't deliver in the 4th quarter cannot and should not be the #1 player in the world.

dirk isn't a tough guy down low on the defensive end, but what's more important is why this 7 footer is allergic to rebounding. melo gives up 4, maybe 4.5 inches and still gets more boards
dirk doesnt rebound great because he's not athletic and doesnt play close to tha basket, which really limits offensive rebound opurtunity

Is the best poker player the one who wins the most hands or the one who wins the pot?

It just doesn't make sense to me that you could be the "best" at the game yet never win the game.

Based off strictly performance from last season and throwing out what any player did in prior years, my rankings would go

1. Rose
2. LeBron
3.Howard
4.Dirk
5.Wade

List became a joke when they put CP3 above the Point God..

I cant put anyone in no top 5 if they cant hit a jumpshot ( Howard). Clutch factor has to be an option when puttin someone in the top 5

1. Durant
2. Dirk
3. Wade
4. Melo
5. Lebron

In just 33mpg he was able to put up similar stats to Wade and was playing on an injured knee/ankle. Kobe is still the most skilled player in the league and most clutch.

In 3 less minutes, I can almost guarantee he put up most likely the same amount of shots as wade. Defensively he's not the same, and he can't play consistently an entire game anymore, he lost that lift on the jumper at the end of more than a few games this year when he didn't get that bench time in. He got swept by the one man german squad too.

If we were talking about a 20 minute game where he could go full throttle the entire way then maybe, but right now I got no idea how an old withered kobe bryant is a better player than dwight howard, lebron james, etc.

You must have not seen the playoff series he had jj barea and jason terry and peja the final game.Pau Gasol only avg. like 13 points. Anyway look at the stats when they played against the mavericks.
Kobe points avg. 23.5 vs Lebron 17.83

I'm a Kobe fan but every player in the NBA battles injuries, even Rose played with a severely sprained ankle and ulcers last year, Wade battled injuries, same with Dirk, it's apart of the game.. Another reason why Kobe wasn't top 3 last year IMO, because he's older and came in the league at 17 years old.. He has a lot of milage, played in the 90's era and this new era, he'll always have a nagging injury every single year..

When was the last time Kobe didn't have a nagging injury throught out the season?
