You can't compare Big, Pac, and Nas' weed consumption vs the artists who talk about it now. For example, seems like ever other day Curren$y releases a song about weed.

Big, Pac, and Nas didn't have entire songs dedicated to smoking like that. They said in in some of their songs, but these n*ggas talk about that sh*t ALL THE TIME.
thats cause they dont have as much real life hardship to talk about, not because they smoke significantly more weed

"Weed make my a.ss wanna k!ll more people" - The Notorious BIG
"If I was'nt high I probably try to blow my brains out" -Tupac

I don't think Jay meant it as a diss he fu*ked with heavy weed smokers, Redman, Meth, Busta,Snoop I just think he mean the use of drugs is now the focus of hip hop now over the struggle that comes with selling drugs back in the 80's and 90's Era of Rap

Lets look at wayne in the 90's and early 2000's he was drug Dealer in his rhymes now he's a heavy drug user Rhyme wise hip hop is going through its punk rock party/drugs/s3x and its mellowed the aggression out lyrically

I think you're missing the point entirely.

Artists now don't really have an agenda to push or an audience to convince of their argument. They're all happy, chill, and promoting their lifestyle. Mainstream artists to say the least.

Even though the majority of rappers in the history of Hip-Hop smoke weed, this era seems to be in which we actually guys glorifying it. Pac smoked weed, but his music had a purpose against White America. Big smoked, but he just wanted to show how difficult it is to attain the American Dream as a black kid from the ghetto.

Artists these days don't have that backstory to their songs. It's very straight and narrow. Weed may spark creativity with some artists, but others may just be sounding a little too relaxed on their sh*t.
I think you just made the same point as him without realising it. "Money mellowed out hip hop" = "They're all happy, chill, and promoting their lifestyle". Artists don't have a point to make anymore because all they want is money and the lifestyle. I don't really see where weed comes into it; weed's been a constant in hip hop. Being able to make so much money has been an ever increasing factor since the 80s.

uh no how many mafioso albums came out in the 90's?

how many identical westcoast gangsta rappers were there?
identical? zero

Im not talkin bout subject matter of the lyricism im talkin voice, sound, delivery, flow, vocal style/cadence etc. Is there another rapper on the planet that sound ANYTHING like ANY of the members of Wu-Tang for example? Snoop? Ice Cube? 2pac, Scarface, Outkast, UGK etc. etc. etc. I can't even tell most of these weak new school cats apart by their sound, most of them sound like some variation of lil wayne sh*ts pathetic.
