Been doing it for 6 months now in Midland, TX. I have an apartment here so that makes it better. I'm trying to get into the office now, maybe a safety type position.

Yo I don't really plan on working on oil rigs (though I got some boys who've been talking about this sh*t) but got accepted to school out there for law....thing is I'm born raised in Toronto, never really left the province

what's edmonton like as a city? Wouldn't mind working in calgary or vancouver after school but 3 years is a long time...is it a hick town? Racist? How many colored people? Women? Anywhere to get a decent fade and line up? lol

Insanely expensive housing and rent rates bro. Believe me, the reason they pay so much is to that you can live decently. Your real wage is actually low considering how high the prices are. Its much colder than Ontario and the summers can be brutal. I live in Ottawa myself and visited edmonton many times in the past. Lotta good looking girls but its too costly to have fun out there.

Regarding the culture, ya lotta white people there man and lotta aboriginal dudes than there too. One thing you don't mention to aboriginal people is their drinking problem lmao. Don't know about fades.....so you gotta search around.

If you wanna get the job then by all means, just remember to calculate your real wage and not your nominal. Also, remember what your leaving behind in Toronto...............

Yeah I've heard rent/cost of living is stupid high which is another issue...I'm going for law school, not work, so I'll be in debt from the jump and that's not a good sign considering all the other things wrong with the city

If I can stay in or near Toronto that's my first option...I have UofA as a safety and its the only sure thing I have at the moment.....LOL yall definately have me hoping for another acceptance right now though

...edmonton's sounding like a real sh*thole

$20/hour and yeah I'm a roughneck. Actually works out to over $25 because you work at least 87.5 hours for a week. Then the next week off :agreement6:

But I'm just doing it temporarily to get some oilfield experience and I plan on doing something else-like an office job since I'm one of the few roughnecks with an education. Have an interview with a company in Houston. Hope it works out.

4 years in undergraduate studies bro but it is extremely difficult. I would classify it harder than Mechanical and Aerospace. Better have your mathematics and physics up to par because it is brutal.

The money is fantastic but a lot of people end up dropping mid way due to the grade requirements.

I say go for it and follow your dream. Keep us posted.
