wayne at 28 (2011):

11 albums and 10 mixtapes released (all of the albums at least went gold)
2 albums that sold a milli first week
one #1 single
over 30 million records sold worldwide

jay at 28 (1997):

2 albums and 0 mixtapes released (both albums went platinum)
no albums that sold a milli first week
no #1 single
over 2 million records sold worldwide

i mean....you n*ggas can cling on to these 40 year olds all you want, but this factual info is staggering.

wayne's potential is unlimited and he's doing better than nas/jay/em/anyone ever did at this young an age.

and he ain't even close to being done
The fact that you even made this thread to somehow insinuate that wayne is better than any of the rappers you mentioned proves how insignificant those "accomplishments" really are in the big picture. Not to mention the questionable circumstances around the first week sales.

point is when you isolate the aforementioned artist from the record sales and awards, Jay,Nas, and Em' still hold more significance in hip hop culture because of the contributions theyve made, the precedent they set, and lastly is the fact that their accomplishment were more organic because their success actually coincided with thier effort and drive.

and while you're being a fu*king cheerleader for your man crush, all the people involved still are far better off than you are so stop with that non-profit PR specialist sh*t you have going on

its crazy how people want to take credit from little wayne, when he proved so many times over and over, mixtape after mixtape, sales after sales, trends after trends, pregnant females after pregnant females that he runs hip-hip.

Jay is washed up..His Lyrics actually used to baffle me..his metaphors were original & on point..His punchlines were sharp as hell & actually "pause" worthy.. His lyrics had depth..

But like i said a while back, ever since Jay retired, Dipset ethered the sh*t outta him & he returned with Kingdom Dumb, He has not been the same at all.. He has definitely fell off drastically..

I was a huge Jay-Z fan.. So i am talking from an opened, unbiased mind.. Jay-Z fell off..

He is done.. His music aint even worth downloading anymore..

His name alone is what keeps his die-hard fans & new fans clinging on..

Is he a smart business man? Yes.
Does he have the baddest bi*ch in the game? Yes.
Is he better than Wayne (as in what?) Thats your decision to make..Everyone has their own reasons for their own opinions..

Im 33 years old & have been listening to Hip Hop since day 1..
Ive seen rappers Improve & Fall off..

In my opinion, Jay-Z has definitely fallen off..
Wayne has definitely Improved..

So therefore, In my opinon, Wayne > Jay-Z overall..

Goodbye.

/thread

for what its worth, without hov mainstream rap wouldnt of had as much lyricism while eminem was poppin purple pills.

Wayne has been around since he was about 14. Jay's first album didn't drop until he was 25. I think it would make more sense to compare their years of activity than their activity at a certain age.

Jay had music in movies and the cosign of Biggie. Wayne started out as the kid on an underground label.

Wayne didn't get a solo release until 1999. Any way you look at it, it's uneven.

are you serious?!?!?!? Wayne had to become Baby's bi*ch way before this to accomplish what he did. By 28, Jay was damn near an NYC legend without being on MTV. You talkin' bout albums? Let's talk about money and success. You really think weezy will reach Jay's status by the time he's 42 at the rate he's going?!?! Dude has like 100 children and is still Baby's bi*ch. Weezy's never been a boss and from the looks of will never......

To even mention Nas?!?!?! Nas wrote Illmatic when he was 17. His verse on "back to the grill" was written when he was 16. If you can actually come up with a Weezy song or album messing with with either, you get props.

PS - Nas & Jay are both still black and not weirdo skate boarder.......smh

you are comparing different eras.... its almost a pointless argument... there was a time when going gold was like going diamond in hip hop.... lets not forget that

yes but when wayne's 40, he wont be what jay-z is today..he'll most likely be a broke has-been crackhead known only for what his anus endured at the hands of some bald creep f*ggot

i mean being molested is one of the things he's known for today, but his fame and popularity overshadow it..once all that stops, its back to being the gremlin known for having had his first p*nis at 13

You do realize Jay came into the when Hip Hop wasn't even that lucrative. In fact, Jay and the Roc along with Bad Boy and The Row are the reasons why labels like CMB can thrive now.

Let's also not forget that Wayne owes his entire career to his daddy.....Jay was always his own boss. That trumps anything Wayne has and will ever do....

RD didn't go platinum until it was re-released in 1999 it was Gold in 1997. - Keith Clark
