I'm not a fan of the spread offense, but he was hired so I'll give him a chance. That loss the other day was not his fault, the players screwed that game up.
You have a point that the players made mistakes but that doesnt excuse the lack of focus shown by the players. All the mistakes that were made are all things that reflect on coaching and preparation. Another thing that is a reflection on the coaching is composure and after that first drive you can tell the team got rattled. Why you ask? Its because after that strip fumble for TD Kelly lost it and went into panic mode instead of calming and rallying his guys to keep their composure and play the game like its a 60 minute game not 5 minutes.
Look at all his decisions during that game, they all are knee jerk reactions and he clearly has a lack of composure. What if he had gone to Redd!ck and told him its going to be alright kid, settle down and bring those punts in the next time instead of going ballistic on him after the each drop or shaky catch.
What about the fact that he held a competition for the starting QBs job in the spring and summer decided on a guy, said that guy would be the starter all 13 games then at halftime of game one he pulls the guy when the guy wasn't even playing that bad? All the analysts, other FBS coaches and even people a.ssociated with the program couldn't understand that one.
I don't mind giving people chances but sometimes you can tell right away when some people are in over their heads. This is the first coach in a long time at ND I can honestly say that's the case with.
