Diddy gets a 50/50 split of North American profit he doesn't own 50% of company.

"Various executives in the music and liquor industries claim that Jay-Z receives profit from every bottle of the brand sold. The cost of production per bottle is $13, and the market value is $225 for each of the 60,000 bottles produced annually. In conclusion, if the Rap star divided profit evenly with the dealer, he would earn slightly over $4 million per year, though the publication estimates he makes well over, being that the equity in the brand is valued around $50 million." Essentially the same arrangment Puff got with Ciroc.

Now Jay-Z isn't the owner of RocNation?
As a management company I love it. He's doing what his friends over at CAA do with management only he's doing it with music and it's a great business for him.

As a record label, Roc Nation ain't sh*t homey.

I'm fu*king shocked your 33 and you actually think Reasonable Doubt hit hard when it dropped. That album was so far ahead of it's time. It did not hit hard when it came out and Jay was nowhere near the King of NY at that time. He was like 4th or 5th in line back then.
Them shiny suits had the game fu*ked up and Jay was so confused he came with this video:

Like I said..he always followed.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? Was does hit hard mean? It was an independent album that sold 300,000 out the gate. Which means Hov made more money than B.I.G. did on his platinum album and definitely more than Nas did on ILL or IWW. That was the whole point for Jay, TO MAKE MONEY, not the hype. B.I.G and Nas had "the machine" behind their projects. (Sony/Columbia and Arista) Jay and Dame financed the promotion and videos for reasonable doubt with their own money. So it wasn't that people were sleeping on reasonable doubt, people outside of NY just weren't hearing it b/c it didn't have "the machine" behind it. However after the success it had as an independent, Priority and eventually Def Jam gave them distribution deals, which like I said b4, gave Jay "the machine" behind his projects, while still having creative control and ownership. Hov may have been 4th or 5th in hype back then, but he was #1 in income. Isn't this thread about Jay's business acumen?

Jay dropped independantly because nobody would sign him. NOBODY

That's why he brought a bag of money up to the radio to bribe them to start playing "aint no n*gga"

"Commercial performance
After its release on June 25, 1996, the album peaked at number 23 on the Billboard 200. It spent 18 weeks on the chart, and 55 weeks on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, on which it reached number three. By the end of 1996, it had sold 420,000 copies in the United States. On February 7, 2002, Reasonable Doubt was certified platinum by the Recording Industry a.ssociation of America (RIAA), for shipments of one million copies in the US."
