addiction is a disease - most people who are addicts come from a background of drug addiction in their families

soon as they try drugs its an everlasting battle to not use everyday, all day, od - whatever.

i try to regulate my alcohol use for this reason because my dad has been smokin weed since he was 9 years old + takes pain medication from complications he's had from smoking cigarettes, getting cancer, beating cancer, having pancreatitis.

who knows what will happen tho

just think its ignorant to say its someones choice to be on drugs more time then they aren't on drugs.
Cool, I guess gangbangers are addicts too, who just can't help themselves because they grow up in gang infested neighborhoods and had family members banging too

I was thinking that I was not sure if addiction could correctly be termed a "disease" but it is certainly a condition that has psychological and physical affects.

Anyway Wikipedia say the following but I appreciate that it is just Wikipedia.

"Disease
The term disease broadly refers to any condition that impairs normal function"

im not getting into the technical aspect of it just my thoughts personally....

i dont see addiction as a disease, moreso a condition. I have smoked cigarettes and still smoke weed every once in a while and drink on the weekends or have a beer at dinner or watching a sporting event with friends but thru all of that i have never once been addicted to it, but to each his own i guess. Ppl respond differently i guess.

i dont necessarily feel bad for ppl that struggle with drugs do to the fact that it was because of their willingness to to try them that got them addicted, but on the other hand i dont wish death upon anyone or the struggles that drug addiction brings to many.

friends and family can only do so much, it boils down to the willingness and the f!ght in someone to actually want to quit themselves.

rip to amy and 7 words pops...like i said i dont feel sorry for them but it is still a tradgedy that no one should have to go thru no matter what end of it you are on.

^next time ur with ur friends during a game, try and sit there sober without wanting a beer.

if theres any part of you thinking/feeling "i wanna crack one open" then that IS in fact a form of addiction.

addiction doesn't mean you do it daily.....it means that your conditioned to doing things in certain situations....and when your in those situations you'll either physically or mentally react to it that way.

Exactly the chemical imbalance is what causes your system to go outta whack. For those who may be addicted try stopping and see how many times you change your bedsheets.

im sure most medical professionals would disagree with that.

bottom line is addiction is a man made concept. unlike actual diseases, you cant put an "addiction" cell under a microscope and physically examine it. you can't draw blood and send it to a lab to check if someone is "addiction positive". you cant perform an mri to check for addiction.

is that why you've responded to me 3 times already?

my side = a progressive argument stating facts, definitions, & comparisons

your side = "shut the fu*k up", "you're talking out of your a.ss", "you're retarded"

hmm

Addiction is a neurologically based disease. For many years recovery specialists have compared alcoholism or addictions to a physical disease: like diabetes. In reality addictions are more closely related to a neurological disorder like Tourette's Syndrome* than they are to diabetes.

Feel the way you want, I'd go with fact though - actually study the dusease. You may not know anyone (and thats good for you) that has this, but just incase you every come acrosss someone you learn to care for that has it, make sure you know not to say what you are saying.

And usually the people who shoot it down the most are people with the issue. I hope you dont though real talk.
