Michael jordans career highest point total was 69 in overtime while Kobes was 81 in 4 quarters. but many of you might not know that kobe also scored 56 in 3 quarters AND 62 in 3 quarter a few years later.

In other words michael jordan scored 69 in 53 min while kobe scored 62 in 36 min. not to mention the 81 points in 48 min.

Next

Kobe also has more range than jordan when it comes to shooting and even though kobe shot a lower percentage from the floor you can explain that by the weak defenses of the late 80s and 90s compared to the 2000's where the Pistons allowed a low 84 ppg in 2004 in the 80 no team ever averaged less that 100.

Lastly

defense in the 80s was more physical but allowed more points

Go to basketballreference.com and look at ofensive stats from the 80s and 90s then today, huge difference. so this means defense was more lax then. and that means defense is more tough now so its harder to score yet kobe still has done amazing things! case closed

1 more thing

Jordan played in a league that had expansion teams just coming in and the talent level was low so he could score 50 easy those nights. Kobe the past 5 years has played in a conference where this year your team had to win 50 games just to make the playoffs. When you play those teams 3 or 4 times each and they're pretty good defenses then Kobe is the better scorer

son seriously are u fu*king retarded? Did u not read my posts?

1. U obviously dont know what hand checking is (i understand ur too young)

2. Already posted but jordan played in early 00's with these rules a a broken down old man and was still putting up 20+...he would have demolished had he been in his prime

3. The rule change did not slow anybodies scoring individually lol....if the rule change was so much harder u would see numbers go down not up or stay the same. When the rule change went into effect guys who were already in the league were not fu*king effected...

4. Again..nobody runs zone
Did you ever watch the nba in the 80's and the 90's lol.... It was a jOke lol scoring everyone scored look at the numbers they dont lie ... Name one of those teams that were better defense than the 04 pistons who gave up 84 a game or the boston teams that just won the title please id love to hear it ha

Who said ilegal defense means no double teams, I an tell your like 18 years old. MJ faced double and triple teams on the regular, how do you think guys like Kerr, Armstrong, Paxson, and Hodges made a living. Oh you never heard of them before, your too young.

Ilegal defense basically said that you if you were gonna double you had to fully commit to the double team, not half a.ss commit. They have a very similar rule today call defensive 3 seconds.

You Kobe stans make some of the dumbest arguments based on lies. First off Kobe has never faced a defense like the Bad Boys in Detroit and the knicks of the 90s. The sh*t that they call flagrant fouls today were regular fouls.

Take a look at the list of 2 guards in today's game and tell me when Kobe will be matched up against somebody 6'9" all of these guards are his height or shorter and not many of them are known for defense.

 Willye said:
This is not and argument about who is better just who is a better pure scorer and that goes to kobe hands down watch the 2 players people are talking about last year are you serious #8 do you remember that guy people have no clue ...

Kobe played in the leaguebefore 04-05 when there was h-check Case closed just a better scorer period
MJ played his whole career in the hand check era, and he still averaged more than Kobe. He averaged 37 in a season son, He had 10 straight SCORING titles(2 year gap when he played baseball). Kobe has 2 which means arguably that in many seasons he wasnt the best scorer that year. He has been outscored in a season by T-Mac AI Shaq Lebron Durant and Wade.

You people dont get it let me school you

Kobe plays in the modern defensive era of traps, doubles, and zone defenses. From the year 2001, the NBA effectively legalized zone defensive, thus discouraging 1-on-1 play. Compare this to Michael Jordan's weaker era, where had to luxury of playing "iso" all game long. Kobe cannot even post up without getting doubled.

Many people think zone's are weak defenses, that is because so many teams don't play it properly. While they may be weak against great passing teams with shooters, if played properly, zone defenses are great against dominant individuals (Kobe, Garnett, etc) that have a weak supporting cast. The whole world plays zone. Even in College basketball, the "purest" form of basketball, the teams play almost entirely zone defense. Around the world, other countries use zone all the time. And if you want to see its effectiveness, just look at the 2006 summer games.

Furthermore today's NBA is far more competitive. Not only does Kobe have to deal with zone, he goes up against taller, bigger and stronger defenders than Jordan ever did. Back in the 1980's most of the shooting guards Jordan played against were 6''2 to 6''4. Kobe can shoot over shorter players like that with unbelievable efficiency, yet he plays against players that are 6''5 to 6''9. In the 80s, outside of a few good teams (Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Knicks) there was really not that much competition. Today, even the worst teams in the league (i.e bobcats, hawks) are good and can hold their own with any team they face.

Sure, the 80's was a more physical brand of basketball. But physicality, does not translate into effectiveness. If you ask any great scorer which is harder: 1) Playing with double and triple teams or 2) Having to deal with stiff-arms and armbars, they would chose the former. And furthermore, you think Kobe doesn't face armbars/stiff-arms? How can you guard Kobe without using your hands? It is impossible. With the rules the way they are, Kobe should be getting two free throws on almost every trip down.
I can tell this idiot was born in 1990 because he seems to think MJ never got double teamed. MJ got doubled in the post all the time thats why he developed his fadeaway so he could shoot over the 7 footer that was coming to help.

Since when did the Celtics and lakers supporting cast become known as weak? Name a team besides Dallas that even runs a zone.

Shooting guards of today are about the same size as they were back then. Pipen was 6'7" and played 3 and today most 3's are about the same height. Just looking at the teams the bulls played in the finals Magic was 6'9" Drexler was 6'7 Majerle and Ceballas were 6'6.

Seatle had Hawkins 6'3 Askew 6'6 McMillian 6'5 and Utah had Russel who was 6'6, not to mention that when Jordan went to the cup there were more shot blocking 7 foot centers waiting the great him at the basket. Ewing, Zo, Mutumbo, Olajuwon, Robinson, Bol, young Shaq Daugherty

Are you a Kobe fan do realize how much he goes to the line for phantom calls. Kobe already wearing down and they not even playing as physical as they did in the 90's, which makes MJs dominace into his mid 30s more impressive.

Name a succesful college program whose primary defense is a zone. The only one I can think of is syracuse. Yall k!lling me with the zone bs because nobody in the nba plays a fu*king zone. And you actually don't think todays NBA is watered down then you need to stop drinking the kool aid.

There is no point in arguing with delusional Kobe stans. These idiots keep saying zone despite the fact that nobody uses the sh*t, and they forget there was no zone when Kobe came into the league. Not to mention 40y.o. mike with no knees was still dropping 20ppg in this so called "zone era". And for the dummies that bought up height, there was a study that showed players were actually taller in the 80's than they are today.

#1 hand checking was changed in the rule book in 94 ....
#2. the bad boys the bad boys... Det 04 defense was better than that team
All they had was rodman and salley on d .. Dont give me joe dumars lil a.ss lol obviously you have never watched the game just because you get fouled hard doesnt mean you play great defense... The league in jordans era was the expansion era 6 new teams came into a watered down league in 89-91 when mj finally won a title... Back than teams were avg 105-110 points a game now the avg is 97-98 y because the defense is better now
3. There was illegal defense than which is huge you could bring a double but u had to commit to it not like today where you can roll guys and just play different areas of the floor back then there was much more spacing it was easy to get your shot now there ae so many diff strategy's its 10x as hard...
And even worse now you have all the floopers which males it hard to drive you basically have to pull up so you dont get a charge call

You remember the bArkley rule that is it was so easy than you could just hold the ball in the post all day and wait ... If you get doubled you kick it out ... Kobe would atleast avg 40 ppg game in that era with so much spacing on the floor the ability to do what you want in the post with illegal defense he would of dominated would of been something to see

Please before you speak watch the game or actually play the game you will have a better understanding...

If you believe Jordan would have half the achievements in today's game you're a mj d!ck sucker.
wait are you serious? if you insert jordan into kobe's position, you don't think as a rookie he would have been starting? you don't think jordan playing with a prime shaq and under phil jackson would have probably been challenging the Lord of The Rings Bill Russell for 11 let alone achieve half of his accolades??? that's crazy my G. Your a laker fan right? Are you also saying Magic's career is a pile of dust because of the era he played in? sh*t, Kareem and the Dream wouldn't be sh*t either if they had to deal with players like dwight howard right?
