Phil Jackson: Kobe Wants to Pass Michael Jordan in Scoring

The LA Times Mark Medina recently wrote a piece on how the lockout could affect Kobe’s chances on climbing the NBA’s all-time scoring list, and mentioned a conversation he had with Phil Jackson last season:

I asked the former Lakers coach last season which player Bryant wants to pass on the scoring list the most, Jackson replied without hesitation, “Michael Jordan.” Bryant argued that wasn’t true and continued touting his sole motivation entails trying to minimize the gap between Bill Russell’s 11 NBA titles and his own five. Bryant isn’t lying when he says that’s his main motivation, but it’s misleading to act indifferent about it when teammates, media and the general public know he’s driven to be the best player ever.

Bryant is currently sixth on the all-time scoring list with 27,868 points.

32,292 is where jordan is at

Kobe would have to average 27 points over the next 2 years to tie jordan.... Considering Kobes age I dont know if its attainable within 2 years.

Its not like MJ is a long ways away from him. sh*t, Kobe can pass him in two years as long as the lockout doesnt take away too many games. Even if the lockout does take away half a season he still would get it done two years after that.

The real key right now is how many more titles will he win, if he wins anymore.

Jordan averaged 31 points at the age of 35. I'm a Lakers fan and I love Kobe but he will never Bo on Jordan level. As well as anyone else in the NBA.

Yeah, and you factor in the possibile shortened season, it pushes that back even more. I don't doubt that he will do it though, I'm more interested in seeing if he can get that 6th title.

Considering I like both players lets be honest here. Jordan never had another dominant scorer to play with so he was allowed to go for 35 a night. Not a knock on either guy just a fact.

Also, is it Kobe's fault he chose to go to the NBA from high school because he was better equipped to handle the NBA at that age than MJ? Once again not a knock on either guy just facts.Add up the three season head start and you have your 200 game discrepancy. It's not rocket science.

But, how about we stop comparing the two since it's clear the eras they played in allowed them different opportunities and realize that they are both the best of their eras, true greats of the game and stop comparing them.

All I want Phil Jackson to say for once is that he is sick of hearing the debates about who Michael had and who Kobe had because neither of those two f*ggots would have a ring without Philly Jack.

fu*k Kobe and fu*k Michael Jordan.
