lol glad i'm not the only one who knows R.A. the Rugged Man

i was about to mention him but i realize he doesn't have the mainstream appeal of eminem
(yet maybe double the skill )
so the average groupie doesn't know sh*t about him and it's almost pointless to mention

Cultural a.ssimilation has to happen for any culture that is turned into a commodity and commercialized, as has happened to hip hop post "Rapper Delight". Obviously to have access to the largest market segment you have to appeal to them. I think at first hip hop offered that market the sensational aspect of gangsta rap, an escape into a world they didnt know, like a good mafia movie. I think nowadays though we are past that initial shock factor and those who grew up and rebelled against their parents using NWA and 2 Live Crew are now parents of this generation of buyers, its now more about relating to the music. You see that in the declining popularity of the more "street" side of the genre.
I think this in turn will allow more white emcees to be accepted in general, because it wont just be about having the street co sign . I am still not sold that this genre will be the next rock n roll or jazz though. I think until white people themselves disassociate the music from it being a "black" thing, then it will be hard for white emcees to be accepted by the people who make up the majority of buyers.
