[quote=Mr. Snowman;19790254]what is up with the hype round reasonable doubt?

no sh*t jay was a beast on it, but it really lacks production value and its nothing new

i hate how people act like he laid the blueprint to mafioso/gangster/hustlin rap when there were so many similar classics that dropped before RD (Me Against The World, Ready to Die, The Infamous, Hell On Earth, Illmatic)

Mafioso where? all of them raps were average drug deals in any ghetto, USA. Raekwon prolly did the theme a little better but......

ALL EYEZ ON ME>REASONABLE DOUBT>IT WAS WRITTEN

IT WAS WRITTEN is still a classic, but....

it was written has holes. you cant say you bump that sh*t track after track.

NAS IS COMING is hella dissapointing(DR DRE TRACK) .:agreement6: this was a forewarning of the firm album.
:agreement6::agreement6:

i hated this track & almost any dre beat with an east coast artist didnt mesh to me.

as far as thread title, I was a Nas stan at the time.(early teens)though i listened to RD, IWW was where it was.

as i got older & recognized real over b.s., RD is a more real album opposed to IWW being an album for entertainment(which is understandable cause it is the entertainment biz)

I don't see how ppl couldn't have heard of Jay until 98. Can't Knock the Hustle got a good amount of attention and I'm not even from the Eastcoast; I'm in Louisiana. I remember more than a couple of them songs being popular.

The poll really can go either way but Nas's album sounds like it was arranged a little better. It has a darker tone which I like. Jay has some of my fav. samples on RD and his vulnerable/witty lyrics are nice but I still can't front on liking Nas's LPjust as much. Nas had those intricate rhymes schemes and attention to details when storytelling. He had the perspective of an entertaining mafioso boss but at the same time he made you think introspectively. There was much more to it than what was seen on the surface.

Both albums are classics to me. I listen to a lot of the songs with both LPs. I think if i said one album now my mind may change in a few months. Classic albums like these make you go back to re listen all the time. I say both are tied.

How is IWW hip hops bible when Illmatic was better?

I also never understood how you could compare between Illmatic & RD and then go and argue between RD & IWW.

That sh*t is puzzling because RD is better than both. May not be a landslide or anything but it is better than both CD's. I'm looking at it entertainment value wise & Jay did that and more with his album.
