Reasonable Doubt had D'evils and Dead Presidents II. It also featured Biggie Smalls. It Was Written had I Gave You Power and The Message. Plus Dr. Dre has a beat on it which was a big deal back then. Overall Reasonable Doubt was the better album, but It Was Written had more mainstream appeal.

no sh*t jay was a beast on it, but it really lacks production value and its nothing new

i hate how people act like he laid the blueprint to mafioso/gangster/hustlin rap when there were so many similar classics that dropped before RD (Me Against The World, Ready to Die, The Infamous, Hell On Earth, Illmatic)

its a classic to me though, i cant argue against HOV havin two classics, it just saddens me how whack he has gotten IMO

1996 really was one of the last tough years to decide a definitive classic

Outkast-ATLiens
Mobb Deep-Hell on Earth
2pac-All Eyez On Me
Makaveli
Heltah Skeltah-Nocturnal
Nas-It Was Written
Rass Kass Soul on Ice
Fugees-The Score
Jay-Z-Reasonable Doubt
De La Soul-Stakes Is High
Westside Connection-Bow Down
Xzibit-At the Speed of Life
Lil Kim-Hardcore
Geto Boys-Resurrection
OGC-The Storm
Ghostface-Ironman
Redman-Muddy Waters
MOP-Firing Squad
UGK-Ridin Dirty
Busta Rhymes -The Coming
Roots-Illadeplh Halflie
Jeru Da Damaja-Warth of Math
Dr. Octogan
Prince Paul
Keith Murray-Enigma
Mad Skillz's debut

Even the "wack/dissapointing" albums were noteworthy like Tribe's Beats Rhymes and Life and Dre's Aftermanth album

Tough year to pick out one great album man, tough year

IWW easy.

it was poetry, it was groundbreaking. it was nas in his prime.

RD had its "classic" moments, but it also had some corny "gtfoh" moments as well

exaccctlyyyyyy this is the same exact thing i mention to idiots when they want to have this same argument. it was written was nas zoning the fu*k out poetically and lyrically raw. jay was just introducing himself thats why jay is getting his d!ck sucked for this album. nas already dropped his debut 4 years prior and it was and had a bigger impact in the game as a whole than jays debut had. when jay debuted people where still talking about alooooot of othe rrappers beside him, when nas 1st came out everybody shut the fu*k up and listened to the album like for 2 years. everybody was either trying to adjust to his style or just didnt spit.

Thinking about it now, IWW is better to me. IWW is Nas at his lyrical prime, nothing released in that year is touching it.
