David Stern: No guarantee that Miami Heat could afford Big 3 under a hard salary cap

The Big 3 is under contract through the 2014 post-season. But if the NBA emerges from this summer's collective-bargaining negotiations with a hard salary cap, Commissioner David Stern said, it's possible the Heat wouldn't be able to keep all three superstars.

Chris Bosh and LeBron James signed $110.1 million contracts last summer while Wade signed for $107 million. The Heat likely wouldn't be able to fit all three under a hard cap.

"That's part of the negotiation," Stern said before Game 1. "This is very complex. If there's a will, we'll be able to work all those issues out."

The NBA, like the NFL, is headed to a lockout July 1 if players and owners cannot agree to a new CBA before the current one expires on June 30.

Stern said owners and players will conduct a "full-blown bargaining session" today in Miami.

"We told the players and the owners to bring their negotiating talents to South Beach," he joked.

Seriously. For them it isn't. But man $30 million pay cut? Thinking from a regular citizen. That's brutal.

What's crazy is people fail to realize that without Bosh we would've got eliminated by now for sure. He's not going anywhere.

This isn't new though, it was part of the reason for the sign and trade. The idea was not only will the players get a contract they like but the hopes were by signing the players the way that they did that under the new CBA that they would be ok. If the Heat are worried about it re work the contracts - pay them less.

Think about it - as good as the 3 are none of them are as dominate though a whole season as in years past because the landscape of the team they play on is different than years before. So that being the case, pay them that way; if your job got easier because they brought on more people and in turn you had to do less work do you really think they will pay you more? I know - they NBA players have contracts...well the NBA owners have rules to follow as well. Now teams like Miami & New York are really going to have to be creative with players. They are going to have to get some of the best scouts in the word to find a few dimonds in the late 1st and 2nd rounds and get players to sign for the leauge minimum.

In every sport it is always the owners can’t make money because the players make too much money. But when you crunch the numbers it doesn’t make sense. The salary cap is somewhere between 50 to 60 million so if 57 percent of the salaries go to the players under the current rules owners expected to make at least 100 mil per year. Yet 22 teams aren’t making any money.

Sounds like this is a revenue sharing problem, because I doubt cutting the cap to say 35 mil and giving the owners an extra 15 mil will solve these problems. Everybody makes a ton of money off the NBA except the small market teams. TNT, ESPN, the players, Nike, Gatorade, Lakers, local TV stations, etc.

Do nothing? He dunk all over LA's bigs. Hes been hitting jumpers and dunking put backs all playoffs. Hes easily the best big man bron and Wade ever played with. With the exception of miami Shaq. Right now Bosh is putting in his name in for one of the most valuable Pf.
