Quinton Primo
*It is widely known that the wealthiest Black person in America is television talk-show diva Oprah Winfrey. No one else even comes close. Winfrey had reached a net worth of $2.7 billion.

However, culling information from a variety of sources, we conclude that the recession was not kind to Winfrey and she finished 2010 with wealth between $2.4 billion and $2.5 billion.

Despite a disastrous year in golf and a divorce, second place still goes to golfer Tiger Woods. However, Woods was projected to have reached billionaire status this year. It did not happen. We estimate Woods lost $200 million in endorsement money due to his much publicized infidelities and that he settled with his ex-wife for roughly $100 million leaving him with a net worth of somewhere between $650 million and $700 million.

The third richest Black person in America is most probably former basketball great Earvin “Magic” Johnson. Johnson’s wealth has come mostly from restaurants, movie theaters and real estate. Johnson did not really have a fantastic year in 2010 but the two of the Blacks who were richer simply had worse years. We place Johnson’s wealth at $500 million.

The number four position goes to another former basketball great turned entrepreneur Michael Jordan. Jordan still pulls in major endorsement money. In addition, he had sufficient bank to be part of the deal which purchased the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA from BET founder Bob Johnson. Jordan has estimated wealth of $475 million.

The fifth richest Black person in America is Black Entertainment Television founder Bob Johnson – the nation’s first Black billionaire. Johnson walked away with a bundle when he sold BET to media giant Viacom. But a substantial portion of that money went to his ex-wife Sheila Johnson. In addition, Johnson’s venture into sports franchises proved a financial mistake. He lost substantially with the Charlotte Bobcats. He is now focusing almost entirely on real estate and the hotel industry. His wealth currently stands at around $450 million.

The African Americans completing the top ten wealthiest list are

#6 – William “Bill” Cosby – $425 million

#7 – Sheila Johnson – ex-wife of BET founder Bob Johnson and owner of the Washington Mystics of the WNBA – $400 million

#8 – R. Donahue Peeples – head of the largest Black-owned real estate development firm in the nation – $350 million

#9 – The legendary Barry Gordy is Black America’s ninth richest person. The 80-year-old sold Motown Records Company in 1988 for $61 million and since became involved in movies and other entertainment ventures building an estimated wealth of $320 million.

#10 – The top ten is rounded out by another real estate giant: Chicago’s Quintin Primo III. The 57-year-old Harvard business school graduate has wealth of $300 million.

BALL PLAYERS, ENTERTAINERS, REAL ESTATE AGENTS......... No Engineers, no doctors, no scientist, no computer programmers, no owners of oil.... Nothing... Just a bunch of Negros that were allowed to make some $$$. After people turn the station how rich are these people? What will they contribute to society once they are dead and gone?

George Washington Carver's creations are still being used till this day.

But I am sure BX, White and Black alike will say I'm just trippin. But if times got hard, what do you think these wealthy black folk will be able to do for us? John Deere provides tractors, Microsoft makes computers, as does Macintosh. Boeing will keep making airplanes but black people will only entertain....

And its a God Damned shame that one of our richest black people is an Ex wife of another of one off this list.... Out of all of us she is on top for being an Ex Wife....

Congratulations Black people.

I actually co sign this 100%

Why is it that the richest black people are only entertainers as if that is all we are good at.

Apparently the only way to make money if your black is to entertain everyone else either by playing sports or making people laugh.

Im proud that there are rich black people out there but as you said where are the inventors, or scientists, etc

Almost everyone knows Bill Gates (inventor of Microsoft) or Steve Jobs (head of Apple) but where are these same type of figure heads for blacks??

Where are the Black inventors who are wide known?? or famous scientists, or speakers?

There's nothing stopping black people from becoming inventors, engineers, and programmers. It just doesn't seem to be something that interests the average black person, and no, that isn't whitey's fault. If anything, it has to do with the people raising them. Inspire children to do something other than entertain, don't let their minds get polluted by the s**t they see on TV or hear in music, open their minds up to other things, and be involved with their education as much as possible.
That's the thing, being an inventor, scientist and engineer requires education, which is the pivotal thing we're lacking right now. It requires above-average intelligence, knowing how to do math and calculations, knowing how to start businesses and patent things, etc. All that, and if you notice, some of these billionaires and multi-millionaires got that much money because of the internet. E.G. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg who all doubled and tripled their worth.

Mark went from 1. bill to 3-4 bill to 13 bill. Bill gates was once getting so much money it would be like $100,000 a second at one point, Apple stock is even passing Microsoft's. All these new billions are coming from the internet now, and other technology, and that's what we need to invest in. Most of the other billionaires are that because of the wealth their family accumulated through decades. And we didn't have that opportunity because most of the black African Americans, our ancestors, were in Slavery.

So when you don't have the education or knowledge to do these type of things and it's also suppressed by your environment and racism, what do you expect? But the difference is, NOW we do not have those same limits, we can also become billionaires or millionaires from the internet. And right now that's the future. We also need more of these rap cats to be less about stereotypes, negativity and stupidity and more about supporting us in our progress, especially us the children and youth.

black people are too self indulgent with their damn money.

if this list, combined w all the black athletes/rappers, IF they actually got together, made a sacrifice, and pooled a significant amount of their money together... they could make some drastic differences in poor black america.
it pisses me the f**k off when i hear ________ black millionaire (essentially every rapper) referring to the poor black slums that he could help if he didnt own 4 houses and 6 cars

sell that s**t and donate a couple of your $50M to transform a school district

Exactly, not just rappers, all of us, if we came together and listen to those with great minds, MLK, Bill Cosby, etc we could do something. Great things, but it seems nobody wants to do that. And because of that, the ones with the great minds go ahead and do great things for themselves and their family. And sometimes your own family don't even listen to you. Alot of this is because of ourselves.

All these great leaders passed away, were murdered and we still didn't listen. That's why we're stuck in this place, but the thing is, y'all (boxden) don't have to be like them. Nobody here does. You dudes can go out and do whatever you want to do. You have those possibilities and opportunities. I just want to say to y'all because it's importance to know that, we need to stop acting stupid and start spreading love and wisdom to the youth. Invest in their futures and educations. And above those of us who are youthful/young like me, we need to listen to the voices of wisdom and be obedient. We need to rise above the occasion.
