I got to devry for computer information systems with a concentration in database management. Its good if you ask me and I've learned a ton of s**t. If you go into something that doesn't involve programming then make sure you get certs.

Dude, It's all about Computer Engineering. Get into computer programming. .NET and PHP are the languages you want to learn. I work for a software dev company as a data analyst and the Software engineers make bank and they basically get to work whenever and whereever they want. Late at night, early in the morning, afternoon, work from home. whatever

There's a ton of languages you can learn. I've learned Java, C++ and C#. Right now, I'm mostly messing with C# and Java though for Object Oriented Programming.

And any school is a scam. It's whatever you make it to be. I know I'm actually learning s**t and I've designed several programs for the bank I currently work at. Too bad they pay s**t though.

probly something in programming simple troubleshooting and a.ssembling computers....i wanna get a job that pays 12-15$ a hour...do you think i should go to devry??

Homie, if you only want to make 12-15 an hour, you don't have to go to school. Many jobs out there pay that much. Anyone going to school should aim for a career that will be making them at LEAST 25+ an hour.

I got a degree in IT networking and security. Whatever you go for make sure you get some certifications.
i got the same s**t...had a little desk job as a junior admin, had my office, didnt get paid much, cuz i was fresh out of school, &, my biggest prob was, i never took any certs...i even had the answer keys to the tests, still never took em...

all in all, yes, i love computers, i just hated dealing with the idiots that need help with every little thing they do when it comes to tech support, i wish i got into programming. i was & partially still am interested in cisco systems....but i left that job, now i'm happy with my job in the casino business, nothing to do with pcs, but i still fix people s**t on the side

the money is great in the IT field, but u have to be able to put in the work to get to that level, i needed more money ASAP & couldnt afford to go through it all...i enjoyed working with them, fixing them, setting up & maintaining networks, but reading up & learning the ins & outs of every thing was just boring & a pain in the a.ss to me....little s**t like different switches having different commands, & memorizing them all...my biggest pet peeve is stupid people, that continue to do the same stupid s**t over & over again, then wonder why s**t keeps going wrong

Start with certifications in this order:

1) A+
2) Network+
3) MCSE or MCITP (Enterprise or Server Administrator)
4) CCNA

Then after or simultaneously go to a undergraduate college and major in business or finance so you can learn how to have your own sh*t, instead of "steppin and fetchin" for somebody else your entire life. Or if you're not into the university thing learn as much as you can independently about business and how money works.

You can knock out the certification as fast as you can learn the material and of course undergrad will take around four years to complete.

I'm currently in the IT field and have certs and a BS and a MA, both with emphasis on computers/technology and have a ton of knowledge on business/finance/entrepreneurship and I'm straight on $$$ for the rest of my life.

Just remember Private Colleges are there to turn a profit. I've heard many awful stories about them, once they got your money they aren't as helpful, friendly and such anymore and you're stuck with whatever kind of teaching you get.

I personally got my Computer Science Bacherlor's Degree while working on my masters. I currently work for Symantec and if you're serious about wanting a job in computers, you can DEFINITELY make more than 12-15 dollars, unless you're just trying to be a IT guy.

edit:
I also have a couple friends who went to Private Colleges who did well, I re-read my post and I felt like I made it sound like they are all going to be horrible which is not the case, but most the time they are a lot more expensive than a CC, or University.

One of them works for Adobe and the other works for Ebay, so they definitely did good for their self.

There's not a whole lot of Networking courses available at a college to be honest.

Bust out the Cisco Certs they have available on their site, if you can knock those out, you will have NO problem in landing a good job.

A lot of companies will just throw your resume in the trash when you don't meet their degree requirements and they wont even think twice, but I know people who were able to get in the door without the education.

Honestly, if you want the BEST shot at getting a job if you do these 3 things, you will be lots of opportunities over other people.

Degree
Certifications
Self Teach on the side.
