your dumb man. Playes are making the same now as they were then in comparison. You have to look at things like inflation and all that when you look at these salaries. Remember money is worth less now. So in 1998 making 272K was similar to making 473K now. Only things crazy about this is how much michael jordan was making. US currency was worth alot more back then in 1998, so that 33 mill jordan was making would be like making 45 million now.

Players salaries havent increased much, they just increase to adjust to inflation. this is a stupid thread.

If you look at salaries in the 70's and 80's they would be siginficantly less because back you could buy alot more with one dollar.

For example a 20 oz cola in a glass bottle use to be like 25 cents. Now 25 cents gets you a generic brand can of cola in a aluminum can

I think it also depends on the contract duration. That was just one year, 1998, but I'm sure other players were making different amounts on different years. Although, Pippen should be the second highest player.

That actually reminds me, After his second season (1980-81) Magic signed a 25-year contract for $25m with the Lakers (a damn near hockey player contract!).

I wonder what the typical durations were for other players like Larry Legend or Sir Charles.

FMONEY STOP IT!!!

the main reason why salaries have increased in the NBA are bad deals made by GM's at the rate a salary increases in the NBA it wont be long before players salaries will be higher than the money the leauge brings in.

Also the popularity of the leauge has grown alot since the 80's and even more in the 90's. All that meant is that there is more money to get becuase the leauge was making more money as a whole.

Derrick Fisher said the union is cognizant about the impact of the sagging economy and of there being a perception NBA players are overpaid. But he said it's the owners who have made decisions about handing out lucrative contracts.

"I guess all of our salaries are too high in a relative sense of what hard-working Americans or people around the world and what their income is,'' Fisher said. "We're not insensitive to that reality. At the same time, we feel like this system is as well as systems in the past. ... There isn't any reason why, if a team doesn't want to pay guys five- or six-year contracts, they don't have to.

"When league revenues go down, player salaries go down. The league already is reporting a salary-cap number that is lower next year than it is this year. That will impact players' salaries. ... Each time we have gone around the block with (NBA owners) with a collective bargaining agreement, that one has always not been good enough four or five years later. ... We do feel there is much more conversation to have than just player salaries are way out of control.''

Who cares about your can of pop, that has nothing to do with $7 beer in an arena that cost $2.50 and the gas station. why is it different??? because they can control the pricing inside the arena.

Nah they just locked in Pippen EARLY and for a Long contract..
This... Pippen had problems with his contract the entire time he was with the Bulls... As a young player they put a long term deal on the table and he took it, it was a good value at the time but as time went on players started to get paid more and more and he was stuck on that contract... He was always looking to renegotiate but the Bulls would never do him that solid... SMH
