I agree with listening to hear something new.
But my point is if you're gonna take the time to make the mixtape and have a release date announced plus the marketing involved, why not just make it an album?
mixtapes have a different sound than albums..artist usually use mixtapes as a means to put out w/e tracks they want/know their fans will enjoy while albums are generally made to please the masses and label...basically artist have complete control and creativity when it comes to mixtapes...although albums are made for one's fan base also in a sense, the sole purpose of an album is to generate new fans, have marketable/radio friendly tracks, and to sell as many units as possible(making the label $$$$, because that's all the f**k they care about)....with a mixtape there's no pressure to successfully meet all the standards that the label would have you do with an album.....why do you think it takes forever for artists to release albums? Because they spend a lot of time trying to meet a common ground that will please their true fans and their label execs..it's hard as f**k to do that and it's a long process to accomplish for
most..they want to stay true to their sound yet give the labels the type of songs that will be radio hits and cause their albums to sell big..so you can only imagine how many sacrifices must be made and back and forth arguments take place along the way that finally leads to both parties being happy with the completed result
