is Common Sense putting out a new album anytime soon?
While I didn't like their album when I first got it... there are a few
genuinely good tracks on it. They didn't get much play on MTV (They
should have released something other than Breaker 1/9 as their second
single though...) though.... A Penny for Your Thoughts and Soul By
The Pound are pretty good...

Feb 21 1994

Has anyone heard of a group called Common Sense

Just wondering if anyone had heard of a hip-hop group (out of Chicago, I
think) called Common Sense, and if they have, what they think of them. Any
info would be appreciated.

Feb 22 1994

Common Sense isn't bad. When I first bought their tape a
few years ago I thought it was total crap, but after awhile it
grew on me. That album was very underrated. Are they coming
out with some new stuff?

aight.. check this out
I went to the Nas / Redman / Eminem / Mobb Deep concert last night
in Hartford CT.. sh1t was alright.. sound was sh1tty
opening acts kinda sucked (one group called Rough even had the
audience throwing the free tapes back at them..
I'ma get to the Cormega and Nas dissing jigga in a minute but heres a
little review...
Mobb Deep comes on with about 15 heads and start with Survival of
the Fittest.. a f!ght breaks out
in the front row which delays Mobb for a bit - but they finished there
set and ripped **** up..
Redman comes out high as fuk.. ripped some old sh1t..some new sh1t
even jumping head first off stage one time.. that n1ggas krazy
Eminem was aight.. no one was really feeling him and the sound on his
sh1t sucked.. he was so pissed he threw the mic down and was bout
to walk off stage but then said fuk it and finished his sh1t repeatidly
telling everyone to" throw there middle finger in the air..."
Nas comes out and just wrecks sh1t..
He has Screwball and Cormega along with about 5 other dudes with
him.. during the beginning of the first verse of Life's a B1tch the beat
cuts out and hes about to stop but the crowd keeps singing the song
so he goes on too for the rest of the verse.. fuk a beat
After he finished Cormega and Screwball did a little freestyle
w/o no beat.. which gets to the point of this post..
Cormega tells everyone how and and Nas are like brothers and
as long as they together they unstoppable (remember Cormega's track
"Fuk Nas" kinda funny that they together now)
At the end of Cormega's flow hes like "FUK JIGGA, Jigga can't touch Nas!"
Which makes me think.. "Is Hova gunna let him get away with that?"
I think not.. Lets watch how this sh1t progresses...

Dead Presidents part two is phat it has all new lyrics and so is

Jay-Z definitely has a better delivery, I'd go as far as to say Jay-Z
has the most polished delivery in Hip-Hop right now. Jay has more
personality and charisma, and that counts for alot. Nas has a better
voice, but Jay can do more with his voice, and he sounds more clear. Jay
has more styles, and is a better battle rapper definitely. Despite all
this, Nas is a better rapper. Nas just has the ability to do more than
Jay ever could. They can both get deep, but Nas can create such vivid
imagery that I've actually caught chills listenin' to songs like
"Undying Love", "NY State of Mind pt. 2", "Last Words", and his latest
classic with Prodigy "Self Concience". Jay-Z is more consistent but I
think we all know Nas has somethin' that no other rapper has...I don't
think anyone can put their finger on what it is...it's almost like he's
a distraught mastermind posessed by the spirit of Queensbridge or
somethin. I remember readin' somewhere that he has a depression problem,
and I bet when he was feelin' depressed is when his best lyrics came
out. Overall I'd say Nas. By the way....ya'll remember when Nas first
came out and he always covered his face with his hand? They had shirts
of that and s**t, and Nas fans were almost like a cult, 'cause they were
few but they almost worshipped his s**t. I think thats a big reason why
people were so mad that he blew up on IWW. 1L.

Neither JZ nor Foxy have anything worth s**t to talk about. So what do
you expect. More bulls**t, right. That ani't hip hop, its rap.

I agree with this. Nas is a better poet while Jay is a better song
writer. Nas "reads better" while Jay often has to be heard to
appreciated IMO.

I don't have a problem with the double timing but Nas does have a
better voice and usually has a more aggressive delivery.

Yep. It's not only punch lines either. I think Jay has more sneaky
multiple meaning lines than anyone I've ever heard.

This will be controversial but I think IWW AND Vol. 2 are two very
underrated albums. Both had weak moments but more than made up for
them with dope tracks IMO.

I think Nas is usually deeper but Jay-Z is more versatile. Jay is
better at switching up his flow and comes off dope over a wider variety
of beats. He also has the ability to go from club songs, to conceptual
songs, to "regular" thug songs, to introspective songs that are equally
nice.

It is very close, which is why this debate has continued for so long.
I would have to give Jigga the slight edge for versatility and
consistency.

Since the new Dr. Dre album should drop on Nov. 2, I thought I'd ask the ng
to hear what y'all have to say about it. It has been 7 years since "The
Chronic" (damn, that's a long time) but can Dre still bring that dopeness we
all know and love?

Did anyone peep that promo sampler with 5 tracks on it awhile back?

Who's feelin "Still D.R.E."? I love that video. It's like "Nothin' Like A G
Thing" all over again!

Jay-Z wrote that song for Dre? And the reason for that was...

---

Yes, Jay Z wrote the lyrics for "Still D.R.E." Everyone knows Dre isn't the
greatest lyricist. First and foremost, Dre is a producer. All of his stuff
has been written by someone else. Why Jay Z? Because Dre has gone
commercial. He wants to make money and he knows that anything Jay Z does,
the people like. Don't get me wrong, I love Dre's music as much as anyone
else (in fact, "Still D.R.E" is one of current faves), but Dre just isn't
hard anymore. He's tryin' to be, but getting Jay Z to write his lyrics when
he's supposed to be bringing back the West, lets you know that all he cares
about now is the money.

By the way, Dr. Dre 2001(Now the official title) has been pushed back to
Nov. 16.
