10 Dope Female Rappers Not Named Nicki Minaj To Watch For In 2011

[pic - click to view]

TheWellVersed is offering up a list of ten upcoming female emcees not named Nicki Minaj who they feel are just as good (if not better) than the Young Money mistress. As we begin 2011 ,they’re brings ten hot female emcess they want you to pay attention to. Some of them you may have heard of, others may be new on your radar. Either way, they’ve provided songs to get you familiar with their different style.

1) Rocky Rivera

[pic - click to view]

The scribe known as Krish De Leon is not only nice writing articles, her rhymes are pretty ill as well. She dropped her self titled debut last February and unfortunately went under the radar of many. Hopefully that won’t be the case for the pint sized bay Area emcee as she is awesome as they come.

2) Marz Lovejoy

[pic - click to view]

The Pac Div affiliated rapper made her presence felt on Pac Div’s “Shine” and has recently dropped her 7-track EP This Little Light Of Mine. A distinguishable delivery, dope rhymes and room to grow (she’s only 19) make Marz Lovejoy one to watch for years to come.'

Marz Lovejoy – “Sticky”

3) Dessa

[pic - click to view]

What can we say about Dessa? Dope? Absolutely. Underrated? Extremely. As the female rapper in Doomtree, Dessa emerged with her brutally honest rhymes and ability to also hold a note. 2010′s A Badly Broken Code was just a taste of what the Minneapolis emcee has in store. We hope to hear more from her in 2011

Dessa – “Dixon’s Girl”

4) Psalm One

[pic - click to view]

Chicago’s Psalm One is hard to peg. She’s introspective and witty with just enough bluntness to give most listeners everything they need in one sitting. As the first lady of Rhymesayers, Psalm One is no rookie to the rap game. She’s dropped several projects since 2001 with 2006′s death of a Frequent Flyer being the most notable. It’s never too late for someone this dope to be introduced.

Psalm One – “Beat The Drum”

5) Boog Brown

[pic - click to view]

How do you describe the sound of Atlanta’s Boog Brown? It’s like social commentary stuffed into the musical mind of a strong female emcee. Her latest project with Apollo Brown The Brown Study is evidence that female rappers are a whole lot more than pretty girls with rhymes.

6) K. Flay

[pic - click to view]

The Bay Area has another one folks. K. Flay rhymes like she has a Standford degree…probably because she has one. The emcee who is very much like a female version of Slug isn’t afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve, but still manages to have fun doing it. Her versatility was on full display with 2010′s MASHed Potatoes mixtape and self-titled EP. One can only hope for more in 2011.

K. Flay – “2 Weak”

7) Miz Korona

[pic - click to view]

Detroit is an emcee haven and Miz Karona is yet another emcee who is just ruthless on the microphone. She’s been one of the stalwart emcees of the indie scene for quite some time. It’s only a matter of time before someone outside of the underground scene takes notice.

Miz Korona – “Pete Rock”

8 ) Josie Stingray

[pic - click to view]

The female rhymeslayer of the Bay Area’s Honor Roll collective is as fierce as they come on the mic. She’s made sporadic appearances with J*Davey and on Von Pea’s recent project, but we’re looking forward to hearing the chick with a mean sneaker game rock mics more often in 2011.

9) Kalae All Day

[pic - click to view]

Kalae All Day has been brutalizing mics with her unique blend of rhyming and singing to push herself to the front of the pack in NYC. She has yet to drop a full length project but when the self-proclaimed “Afromatic-neo-hippie-rockstar-soul” artist drops The Sun, The Moon, The Stars in early 2011, we’ll be listening.

Kalae All Day – "O.G.LYRIKALBOOKBAGGER" f/Homeboy Sandman

10) Rita J

Rita J is what raw and soulful talent is all about. Representing Chicago, Rita has been a member of the All Natural Inc family since 2002. She dropped the critically acclaimed Artist Workshop in 2009 and we’ve been wanting to hear more ever since. She’s part throwback, part contemporary and all around talented.

Rita J – “No Regrets”

11)

Nitty Scott

Born in Michigan, made in Florida, paid in New York,” the lyrical femcee says of herself. Nitzia Scott was born in the midwestern city of Grand Rapids, Michigan to her Puerto-Rican mother and New Orleans-born African-American father, to whom she credits her diversity to.

With an impressive, well-rounded portfolio and a handful of odds and obstacles already overcome, Nitty Scott, MC is now under new management, preparing for her next move. She focuses on songwriting and trips to the studio, “the lab”, as she refers to it, and plans to work up a real buzz this year. Her debut independent music project is all in the works, from mixtapes to features to the upcoming Nitty Scott, MC blog.

Her mission statement remains as it always has, “to be apart of a movement and not an industry, to be socially responsible and charitable with her influence, to inspire art and educated listeners, to promote substance in mainstream entertainment, to be praised by critical acclaim, and to document an era via the written word.” Look out for Nitty Scott, MC, coming to a boombox near you !

12) Nikki Lynette

Dubbed by Lupe Fiasco as the “Queen of Englewood” hip hop/punk star Nikki Lynette is excited to release her latest studio project, The Strong Survive EP. With songs like “Model in the Mirror” “The Strong Survive” and “Whatever I Want” already licensed to MTV and creating the soundtrack to top rated shows like “The City” and “Jersey Shore,” the Chicago native who recently racked up accolades at the Chicago Music Awards 2010 begins to set the precedent for her debut studio album The Popularity Contest, featuring production from Da Internz and film score composer Ethan Stoller.

I call Nitty Scott blows before any of them. I'm sure the other female rappers are dope, but this is the technological age. Unfortunately, it's more important that the image sells before the music. Plus, since female rappers only have 2 mins of fame instead of the usual 5, they gotta be able to ride the s3x appeal wagon till it breaks down.

unless a female rapper is going to dig up Biggie and have him ghostwrite, there ain't going to be a female rapper able to put a decent album out
