So last week Im at some seedy bar watching Okami emasculate Marquardt. I run to the bathroom & some deranged maniac meth head with a s**t eating grin pulls a pistol out from under is PrideFC throwback jersey then points it to my head & says, "Run every damn dollar in your pockets & pick between Rampage or Lyoto". And as much as Im a huge Rampage fan, I reached in my pocket grab my last 5hundo handed to him and hesitantly whispered Lyoto.
Ok...maybe a tad bit exaggerated but i think you get my point.
As the saying goes styles makes f!ghts & this f!ght could not be a worse f!ght stylistically for my man Page. Jackson is a forward momentum brawler relying on his raw punching power & relentless aggression. Whereas Lyoto is a much more cerebral f!ghter, extremely patient, very elusive & highly dangerous with an arsenal of weapons. As I said Im a big rampage fan but the #1 bone I have to pick with him is that he refuses to evolve with the sport. Neglecting to improve his jitz, his kicks, his ground game from off of his back & etc will prove to be his downfall. Even his wrestling (which use to be one of his strong points) has looked busch league lately. How long can you hope to KO every opponent before people start figuring you out?..ie Chuck Liddell - My guess is that we'll see Jackson head hunting Machida trying to pressure him desperately swinging for the fences. And while Shogun was able to employ a similar tactic rather effectively against Machida, Jackson is no where near as well rounded a f!ghter as Shogun is.
I saw a clip Rampage poking fun at Machidas style, ultimately saying Lyoto's f!ghting style is boring. He seemed to appear as if he's already frustrated just by simply expressing his feelings with the matchup. How's he going to feel when he's breathing heavy trying to chase the dragon down while flailing punches wildly & getting peppered with counterstrikes?
Win or Lose I'm still a Rampage fan. But this is going to be THE pivotal f!ght in his career signaling the exact point of his disheartening demise....OR...the return of the industrial steel chain wearing, mean muggin, crazy a.ss howling, savage beast that use to mush the 205lb division like a stick of warm butter!
