Kanye isn't HOOD dude. This music isn't for the hood, this music isn't even hip hop unless we count it as the evolution of the genre.

Kanye brought his style into it's own lane with this one, kind of a combination of 808s and his older s**t in the sense, one record sounds hip hop while the next can be a rock/R&B styled track.
explain to me how this aint hip hop?? wtf is it then?

Honestly, it transcends genres to me. Some joints are hip hop, some are rock, some have a dance/tecno element, some sound R/B. This album is a mixture of sounds that come together to make good music, not necessarily good hip hop.

The beats aside from a few don't sound like prototypical hip hop beats, the heavy use of instrument without actual lyrics isn't exactly hip hop.

I feel like it's as hip hop as a Cudi record, which I also don't call hip hop. It's transcends genres, I really can't put a label on it.

F-ck Rolling Stone Magazine and their ratings

if you're stuck in the past or underground
Take one of these

In the past or underground is where must of the classic albums are found.

Let's just say this.
If you still got it in rotation this time next year it might be a classic, if not it's probably just a great but not classic album. Don't be so quick to jump on his d!ck till it has time to run through on repeat for a while.

Till than I'm going to

When did I call it classic? I just said it's great musically, the beats are so intricate.

As for classics, that's cool. This isn't what Kanye was trying to make, he was obviously trying something different, not attempting to make another Illmatic.

People stuck in the 'rap music' bubble, won't appreciate this album.

This is music, this isn't a rushed out, generic 16 bars, hook, 16 bars, hook, 16 bars, hook format.

Is this a classic RAP album? Probably not if you're stuck in the past or underground, but it's a great musical album.
this!

I can't stand when people always say the only classic albums are old ones. f**k outta here with that. This is a great, amazing album. Period.

i gave the album a listen today at work and i honestly dont get it. it seems real long winded and pretentious to me with all the long a.ss instrumental at the end of songs. i really like Gorgeous but the distortion on the verses makes it almost unlistenable, or at least ruins a lot of the enjoyment for me. ill give it a couple more listens but this album really didnt do it for me

I honestly like a lot of the instrumental portions of the songs. The music is appealing to me and sometimes lyrics get in the way, it's a good balance in my eyes.

There's nothing ground breaking musicly about this f**king album

n*ggaz need to stop with this musical bulls**t

Last I checked rap is music n*gga

and a musical is a play where actors break out into song and dance between diologue
Rap in the conventional sense is unimaginative and boxed in of late. I see no creativity is most rap, it's the same T-Pain on the hook, cookie cutter rap beat.

This s**t is at least different. It's not a classic but it's a change of pace and it's cool with all the instruments.

f**k rap music.

im not completely opposed to instrumental portions in songs but like theres a minute and a half of instrumental after kanye's verse and before rick ross' in devil in a new dress...thats retarded. the first 30 seconds of Runaway is like some sort of al queda torture and the last 3 minutes of that song are excruciating to me. the s**t at the end of Blame Game was funny for liek 15 seconds but that s**t goes on for 3 f**king minutes. im gonna edit out the 15 minutes of bulls**t and listen to the album again and hopefully itll make it more enjoyable.

Rolling Stones has it right 5/5 there hasn't been music like this that fits perfectly from song to song in a long time. And as people typed previously in this thread lets wait til a year from now to call it a classic.... well if YE doesn't drop an album within a year then i guess it'll be a classic....YE wait 2yrs for your next album lets make this one a classic first lmao.....
